No, just wondering why you loaded it with the heavy end to the back end of the trailer, glad you got home safe.

HAHAHAHA. Nope. You're okay. I also know how to tow shit. I'm saying if I'm U-Haul, I'm not renting my trailer to somebody that doesn't know what they are doing.

Car haulers are forward biased, so loading a heavy vehicle head first will generate too much tongue weight.
Tongue weight is easy to measure, you just need a bathroom scale and 3 pieces of 2X4.
Most towing problems are caused by improper tongue weight or insufficient brakes.

Well, most experts agree that an acceptable tongue weight for any trailer is somewhere between 9 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight (loaded). Therefore, if you are towing a 5000 lbs trailer (Ranchero + trailer), the tongue weight should be around 500 lbs. Not sure whose bathroom scale would get that. Maybe Carl's? Hahahaha kidding, Bud. I know you don't weigh anywhere near 5 bills.

You might just have something there Carl...

During training exercises, the lieutenant who was driving down a muddy back road encountered another car stuck in the mud with a red-faced colonel at the wheel.
"Your jeep stuck, sir?" asked the lieutenant as he pulled alongside.
"Nope," replied the colonel, coming over and handing him the keys. "Yours is."

Praying everyone has a Good day,

Must have been a southern guy.
To be fair, I used to tow big trailers loaded with trees, backhoes, dozers, etc. and the tongue weight question was on the CDL test. If it's too light, like just a couple hundred pounds, any bouncing will lift your back wheels off the ground which can induce fishtailing.

That joke must've been something Bill Engvall came up with.

On the subject of UHaul, whether you know how to tow or not, they will do what it takes to protect themselves legally. If y'all recall, my niece's Taurus (yes, the one I gave her) finally crapped out right when she was transferring from Western Oregon U. I couldn't haul it up to the shop right then, so we put it in storage for two months, and then I went down with Dad's 90 F150 to pick it up. Now, a few facts: the Taurus was 3800+ pounds. The F150 came from the factory with a 5.0 liter, AOD and the trailer towing package, 5,000 pounds capacity. The truck has a receiver, so no bumper towing. UHaul's calculator would not even allow me to use a single-axle tow dolly to haul that car. But, the gal put in 'F250,' and Voila! The problem was solved. Getting the car loaded by myself was another matter....

Why didn't you use a tow dolly, no tongue weight to speak of.

I've grew up with two sisters, then got married and had two girls, so I've gotten pretty good at doing task alone. Anyone can do anything with enough help. Slackers.

also in most states if you use a dolly the car you are dollying has to be registered because the tires are touching the ground.

That was actually for handy_andy, and I try to stay happy as for knowing everything I try not to compare myself to ribald. And as for the Squire I would not have tried to recommend a dolly not knowing the condition of the tires.
