70ies Ranchero wheels question

    15x6,5.jpeg Hi there,
    I recently bougth these wheels for my 1972 Ranchero.The seller said it came of his Ranchero ( didn`t ask him for the year )
    The wheels are 15 x 6.5" and are stamped with "FORD", the size and some extra numbers, that seem to be part numbers.
    Does anyone know what wheels these are and on what Ranchero or Ford they have been on ? All I could find is an ebay auction, where the seller calles them "Western Turbine Aluminium wheels", with no extra info from which car they come of.

    Similar, but the Crown Victoria rim has different ribs. The ribs on mine go down to the hub cap opening

    as they have benn on a 70ies Ranchero, I think they will fit on mine.They really look cool

    Those were used on the 77-79 t-birds and have seen them on the same year cougars too.

    Yes. Not the best design. I guess they are sort of attractive, in a hub cap way.

    I also suggest some anti-seize around the hub. The aluminum rims were very prone to seizing onto the steel hub and would almost take destroying the rims to get them off.

    Hence the cracking. Good advice. My old F150 rims wouldn't come off at all. I put the lug nuts back on, backed them off a couple threads, then drove around the parking lot, swerving back and forth. That was the suggestion from a Ford engineer. Worked too.

    we used a 40 ton porta power frame spreader. when the one side came off it left the center still attached to the axle hub. the other side came off with such a bang you thought a gun went off.

    I would have loved to see that I have done worse I still can't hear very well from my playing with Tannerite last year.

    it was a buddy's 78 cougar that we were doing this on and when the broken one came off it ended on the front lawn (20 ft) the other one sent us running! (lived at the top of a hill ) it started rolling (with a flying start of course) and took us 10 min (longest 10 min of my life worrying about were this thing may crash) to finally stop it. :eek::eek::eek:

    I had a set of those, from a Cougar, on my '74 Squire. The way to quickly tell between these and Panther rims (which, incidentally, also fit '72-'79 Intermediates), is that the Panthers have three metal studs, used to hold the center caps to the wheels, along with the different rib style. In addition to the anti-seize compound, wire brushing the mounting surfaces of the wheel and the hubs ensures corrosion won't interfere with removal.
