If I do the Shelby Drop... that should lower the truck by 1/2" to 5/8" max. If I cut out half of a coil, that should drop it another full 1/2 to 3/4.

This would give me between 1" and 1 ³/⁸" drop up front... correct?

Also, wanting to level out the rake on the truck... so 2" blocks out back could get me pretty level.

Wondering if this would be the way to go for better handling and a level stance.

I plan to never have over 600lb in the truck at any given time.

Current stance before and after wheels and tires:

The Shelby drop should give you a 1 inch drop. I wouldn't cut the springs but would get a new dropped spindle instead.
I have cut springs before and all ways had problems later.
When you cut your springs you are changing your spring rate.

They don't make dropped spindles for a 65' at least nine that I can find.

No way I am spending over $100 on dropping the car... lol.

It looks to be a real nice car. I'd think carefully about chopping up the suspension for looks sake.

I'm doing the Shelby Drop regardless and tossing blocks in the rear... whether it's 1" or 2" depends on the front in order to level the ride a bit.

Blocks are cheap and easy... so I can play with that at any time.

In any manner I would like the truck lower... if a S. Drop gets me a full inch, then that's perfect.

I just hate standing or driving behind the truck and seeing the differential... and I dislike seeing too much sidewall under the flairs.

    I dunno, I'm weird... Haha.

I don't want to drop it to the weeds. Level would be best... and the S. Drop for handling sake is also the main reason. If the S. Drop lowers the front any more the rake will drive me up a wall.

You can drop the rear without using blocks.
In the rear of the springs you will see the spring mounts.
Get a long prybar and insert it in the bracket and with a lot of effort flip them the opposite way.
Its free and gives you a 2 inch drop [at least] and really doesn't effect the handling. Only takes about 10 minutes to do both sides.

Never thought of that... looking at the shackles it doesn't seem possible. The spring would either bottom out on the frame or hit the filler neck.

Just curious, what are your wheel/tire sizes, before and after? :D

I don't think you can do that with the early 60's Rancheros. My 67, yes, my 64 Falcon, no.

    Before 14x5, 0 offset, 215/70R14
    After 15x7, +6mm, 215/60R15

The Before would rub backing up in tight turns. No rubbing on the new ones.

The Shelby modification will yield little drop but greatly improve the geometry of the front suspension. If you do cut the front springs always remember the amount you cut will yield double that on the body so be careful so you aren't "surprised"! Blocks are the simplest and easiest way to drop the rear but proceed carefully as well with the amount (I have 1" on mine) because of possible tire interference in the wheel well…

Ditto on the Shelby drop. Hardly noticeable lowering on my 65, but great on the handling side.

IMG_20200521_211049_168.jpg Just dropped the rear 1.5" and it is almost perfectly level. Love it!

This weekend I will tackle the Shelby drop.

Shelby drop is done! Very easy.

Had the car aligned to +3.5 caster, 0 camber, 1/8 toe in.... wow.

The thing will now do highway speeds without wanting to throw me into another lane. It also handles SO MUCH better. Much less body-roll in corners, and feels much more planted.

Still a bit of looseness on center, so I may try to put an 1/8th of a turn on the worm gear.

It's reallly... truly a different car!
