What is this thing?

I picked this up at an estate sale today for $1. Why? Because if the American Pickers have taught me anything, it's that if you've never seen something before, buy it; because it is new, yet old; it would make a decent weapon; because it was $1.

Google image search says it's either a floor, or a table.

What is it? I figure with most of the members here pushing 80, someone should know.

 

I believe that is a steel fence post remover. You slip it over the post, down to near the ground, then heave the arm, and it pushes the post sideways to allow you to remove it from the ground. Easier than moving it back and forth to loosen it. The one I saw years ago, my uncle had on his farm. Especially useful when you set up and take down temporary fencing.

 

I can see it being something used on metal, temp, fencing, but not for removing it. The arm isn't long enough to get any leverage, IMO.

 

Damned thing's 15 inches. If you can't get leverage with it, Muscles McGurk, you need to get back to the gym. It's built to help you do the job, not do the job for you.

That business on the left end is a kind of ratchet mechanism, slides along a rectangular rod of some sort, spring clamp holds position. Someone else will have to figure out what the other end attached to.

 

Carl is right, that thing is not 'old'.
It is older than my cat.
It does look similar to a "T" post fencing tool I have used.

 

I don't believe it's a steel fence post remover. It's a little small for that. Almost looks like some sort of brush grubber -OR- a steel stake remover. It also looks "implement-ish". Like part of a tined farm implement.

Whatever it is, I do believe that's just the kind of thing I need in order to complete my doomsday device. How much do you want for it? I'll send one of my minions to retrieve it.

Pushing on the top of the post would give you more leverage.

The quickest way to find out what it is, is to part with it! ...then before you know it, not only will you absolutley need it, but have to pay 10x what you sold it for to buy another.
