Wait till your state learns from California. We pay over 40 cents a gallon just in state gas taxes. Add the use tax, licensing, and the feds and you see why our cheapest gas is almost $3 a gallon
The 23 cent cent tax increase was on top of an existing 18 cent tax. As far as I remember the only other tax is federal. Is it true that part of California's expense is due to (several) unique formulations being required?
Yes the ever changing formulations are part of it. There is also a gas station tax that is based on sales, use tax, underground storage tank maintenance fee, confiscatory property taxes on the properties stations, trucking companies and refineries sit on, taxes charged on each barrel of oil that comes out of the ground or into the state to the refineries and on and on and on. Wow. So a gallon of gas is gonna be like a pack of cigarettes; the cost is mostly taxes. I quit smoking in 2007. But I am not ready to become a Prius driver.
There is no escape, CA, OR and many other states are gearing up a per mile tax on the electric/hybrid vehicles to make up for 'lost' taxes.
I enjoy this hobby for lots of reasons and like most hobbies they're not cheap, unless you like bird watching without binoculars in your backyard (which I do). So being a somewhat expensive hobby I pose this question... is paying an extra $2.00 per tank really gonna hurt you? I sure doesn't hurt me, and if it did I might be on this forum. edit... I forgot to post the link http://electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?board=13.0
Its true that two bucks won't kill me. Its also true that i enjoy birdwatching. <grin> ...Im just worried that two bucks is gonna turn into four bucks, who are gonna make babies and turn into eight bucks, etc etc. But I will always love my Cochise!
I paid $2.59 for diesel yesterday...it's been slowly going up out here again. For a while, it was cheaper than gasoline.
Seems to be dropping a little around here; it's in the $2.70-2.80 range, which is at least not over three bucks.
We get around NZ$0.72 to US$1.00. We pay NZ$ 2.00 per litre for crappy fuel and NZ$2.35 per litre for not so crappy fuel. So to help you with the arithmetic 1 US gallon has around 5 litres. So at that rate we are paying around US$7.20 per gallon. For the crappy stuff. Cool huh.
I filled up from near empty yesterday -- $110.00 NZ dollars . As I drive my 66 daily that will last me a bit over 2 weeks [ depending on how I drive ! ] Denis.
It's $3 here, but you have to take into account that many are happy to pay more than that for a cup of coffee and more than $8 a gallon for water.
In the Phoenix metro area they have jumped about 20 cents the last week or so. The Fry's Grocery store near us is at $2.49/gal for regular now, was like $2.27 a week ago. Russ
OK, it's gettin ridiculous here. About 8 months ago I saw a low of $2.29. Now it's breathing real hard on $3.00
