I want to put power brakes on my 65 anyone know what master cylinder and booster will work on the 65 ranchero.
Myself, if I was contemplating a brake change would at least go to a dual reservoir master cylinder conversion.
A conversion to dual master and front disk would do far better than power brakes. All the assist does is make it easier to push the pedal, it does not make your brakes any better. You just end up with bad brakes, but not a tired leg.
see this way you can still cut some rug while drinking from your jug, without a tired leg, I answered him?? power brakes what master cylinder & booster
Many think that a brake booster will give them better brakes, rather than merely a pedal that is easier to push. That was the reason for my comment.
No, power brakes do NOT "give" you better brakes, as John said, it ONLY makes the pedal easier to push. It will not make the car/truck stop any shorter of a distance.
That's what makes this site interesting, some people know more than others,,, the added info gives so many more options Thanks guys
Wrong. Many people, particularly old farts like those on this site, don't have the leg strength to push hard on the brake pedal. Therefore, power brakes WILL get you guys better brakes. Either that, or work on those bird legs. For cripes sake.
I am doing the front disc conversion to my 65, they were under braked from the factory with the drum set up. Turn key and fairly inexpensive.
Put a disc brake kit on the front of my 64. Kit went on easy-a little over an hour. Also added a dual master and proportioning valve. All went well--until--several of the brake line connections were rusted and would not break loose. Ended up making new lines to both front discs. Already replaced the lines on the rear brakes when I went through those a few months ago(replaced slave cylinders, shoes and all springs).
Put a ford disk / drum MC (I think Fairmount / M2) and front disks on my 65. With the right calipers (ones with a fairly large piston like those on a '90s Chevy Colorado) you will have no need of a booster as the pedal will be just as light as original, but the braking will be vastly improved.
