Yeah, no kidding. It's not like when the floor of the Corvette museum collapsed, where most, if not all, of those Vettes were restored back to condition; this is fundamentally a total loss. What worries me, is if the fire was deliberately started. That may end up sticking in the craws of the insurance companies.
'90s-era cars of this type will become like the '60s-era cars. But the point is that these belonged to people, and they were destroyed in a fire. I'd be just as saddened for them if they had '80s Ford's in that fire. Losing a possession you cherish still hurts.

That fire is a prime example of why Dad and I don't lease our cars to movie productions. Never let your car out of your sight. Those Camaros were their owners babys even if we think they aren't our cup of tea. You can't just go buy a new one from that era. Watch the insurance companys try to weasel out by claiming the owners were using them for profit if they leased them to the movie producers.

Not vintage just yet is correct. Give them time and they get that classification. Eventually they hit their high water mark and ride the high value train for a while. Then as the buyers eventually loose interest they fall in value back to the point of being just another old car you can't get your investment back out of.
And with all of that plastic burning it couldn't have helped our global warming problem... Sad humor.
My youngest is 13. He saw an 80's BMW recently and said "Hey, look at that oldie!" I about smacked him. Then I thought about it, and when I was 13, the cars I saw that were 30+ years old like that BMW were cars from the 1950's. I thought those were old and my dad probably wanted to smack me, too. So, a 25 year old Camaro would sort of be vintage now, I guess. But still not to me.
I like to think of both my 54 year-old Ranchero and my 68 year-old body as "Historic", way past "Vintage"; one is highly collectible I'm pretty sure...
I would love an older BMW, with the dual headlights and the boxy shape. Problem is, there are too many cars and not enough driveway. Maybe in my next life ... Joseph
My elderly neighbor has a 1986 Volvo 850 (?) that I'm always working on. It runs like a top, and the body is perfect (minus paint fade) but the interior is crumbling, as is everything electrical on it, like power window switches. I've rigged him up a couple toggles so he can raise and close the windows. Luckily, for him, he rarely drives it. He paid $30K for it new. If I could get it cheap, I think there's a decent flip op there.
