Hey all....my dash project is under way soon, and I’m getting all my new gauges lined up. Got my in-dash tach too, pretty stoked about that. So is it cable-driven, or electric? I’m thinking the latter but not certain. Whadya think?

Should be electric - I don't think I've ever seen a Ranchero or Torino with a factory cable driven tach.

...do you think there’s a specific wiring harness that I need to use/find? Or can it just be wired in?

Anything can be 'wired in, but you still need the proper wiring diagram in order to do it.

Cindy, Auto Crafters sells a pre made factory wire harness for your tach. You have to drill one hole in the firewall then connect their wires to the power side of the ignition coil. The other end under the dash plugs into the tach. Part number = C90Z-17A299A. Phone # 1-800-228-7346. Lighting for a clock should light up the tach too. Hope this helps !

    Cindy,

My tach has its own wire set, separate from the factory harness, consisting of two wires. They go to the + and - side of the coil!

Cindy, here is a simplified diagram for how the harness you ordered plugs in. Nothing goes to the points side of your coil. 69 tach wiring.jpg
