Got it. Babe appears to have factory undercoating (which I think Bill Cosby showed in his Ford commercials), and I was wondering if replacing it after floor repairs would be a good idea?
well, I haven't worked on her lately. I managed to get the title changed from the Idaho dealer to my name only took 2 weeks to get done, but after all this time got a clean Florida title
Nice. I managed to get Babe's title changed over to just my name and a new Texas blue title for her in June. And an aside, I took two weeks back up in WA to take care of some stuff, and one thing I got taken care of was to find the owner of the S#!tbox (he was in rehab since December), and get it into my name. So now I own it. I also got my Exploder sold, and transferred the title of my dad's '90 F150 to my friend Steven, to satisfy a debt with him on my dad's estate.
I just got through repairing nearly the same areas on my Chero. Without the help of a rotisserie...... Took me several months to complete it. One question I have on yours is was there a water leak that lead to the floor rotting out? Looks like I might have one somewhere around the wipers on both sides. Did you see anything like that on yours?
Almost certainly your cowl is leaking. With the wipers lifted off the windshield, run water over width of the windshield and then inspect inside for leaks.
Andrewok1 can probably tell you for the 72, but for 70/71, the windshield has to come out, the fenders off, probably best if you pull the engine, etc....it's among the more/most involved sheet metal replacement jobs on one of these. Unfortunately, it's also very common. I've never done one, but I've reviewed lots of posts on them...some good info out there where folks have gone through the process.
alot of the 72-73 had windshield leaks do to rot in the frame areas ,also as Basstrix stated is all true as well , this body was stripped and then spent 2 + years out in the Florida rains my blue car had rotted torque boxes -and also this one am working on , thanks for your interest Curtis and welcome
I have never really been a Ford fan, but this car actually has sentimental value. My aunt bought it and drove it for years before selling it to my uncle. He let it set for many years until I was able to buy it from him for 300 dollars. I know my aunt would be happy to know I have it. By the way mine is a 1977 model.
You can buy little metal pieces that cover the entry-way holes in the dash area -- I found some that were magnetized, will stick to the fenders. Chances are you will remove the pieces that cover the windshield wiper linkage -- in order to replace the bushings. Welcome to Ford ownership.
