Changed the rear shocks yesterday on my 66 I did a search on here for sealing the panel but only found where someone used plumbers putty or weather stripping from home depot I am considering using RTV or outdoor home caulk anyone use either or have suggestion for something else ?
I used closed cell foam weatherstrip on my '65, but there are still areas around the wheel wells where water can sneak in.
Don't use RTV, I agree with Beerbelly, use 'camper tape,' as it's meant to not stick to one side of the joint. I'd apply it to the cover. As for water getting in through the wheel wells, I'd just make sure there's drainage.
There is a non stick removable silicone caulk https://www.amazon.com/18324-Seal-Removable-Caulk-10-1-Ounce/dp/B0002YVNOQ or similar I've never used it, it may work maybe tape it off with painters tape for a smooth look but the peel and stick closed cell tape applied maybe a better choice.
Yeah, you will cement it down with RTV and most caulks, so you pay hell trying to get inside if you need to.
You can use Mortite rope caulk, easy to install and easy to remove the panel when you need to. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Frost-Ki...MI3-XBgZrB6AIVBdlkCh1Y_QT-EAQYASABEgLH-PD_BwE
Thanks everybody I am going to leave it unsealed for now and contemplate my options for a while also I am installing a craftec tonneau cover tomorrow after I install it I plan on really hosing it down with the garden hose and see how much it leaks living in Arizona just west of Phoenix rain isnt much of a concern normally
The problem with Mortite is that it dries out another possibility is Butyl tape https://www.homedepot.com/p/Fabral-...VoR6tBh0kCg74EAQYASABEgIvpfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds https://www.ebay.com/i/163684524909...MI_YL31dTC6AIVoR6tBh0kCg74EAQYBSABEgKHLPD_BwE
