Hi, does anyone know if the instrument voltage regulator for my 72 Ranchero - C9AZ-10804-A can be substituted with the easier to get D1AZ-10804-A ? All these regulators seem to regulate the 12 volts to around 5 volts.I opened my old and damaged regulator ( C9AZ-10804-A) and found a bimetallic element. To fine adjust this bimetal strip, there is a tiny adjustment screw. When opening the newer model C9AZ-10804-A, I saw that the internal (possibly electronic version ) is completely embedded in epoxy glue. This regulator has no adjustment screw. What can I do ? the original old one is hard to get, expensive and I would rather have something modern. Ilja
The D1AZ 10804 A lists out for '72 vehicles without the gauge cluster and is designed to a load that only supports the temp and fuel gauge. The C9AZ 10804 A supports the additional gauges. You should try and get the C9AZ part if possible. There is an after market electronic non-adjustable available, note in the text below the part it states it is the equivalent of the C9AZ 10804 A part number, and it is available here: https://www.npdlink.com/product/reg...regulator%2Bregulator&top_parent=200001&year= and here: https://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_...ant-voltage-regulator-without-tachometer.html
what 72GTVA says... eBay has them, too https://www.ebay.com/itm/INSTRUMENT...ORD-TRUCK-69-79-CAR-C9AZ-10804-A/274285417236
Thank you for that, I am currently checking the shipping rates. do you know what pupose the little part on the picture has ? It is between the IVR and the printed circuit,i.e. the IVR is not directly connected to the printed circuit. I know nothing about electronics, but this part makes no sense for me, as it has just some windings of red wire around it. BOTH ends of this wire are connected to the larger plug.I don`t see any meaning in this. When I replace the damaged , old IVR against the new, electronic C9AZ-10804-A , do I still need this little part on the picture ?, or should this be removed ??? Has anyone ever made this change against part C9AZ-10804-A ? Ilja
It appears to me that someone has left the remaining part of a broken/seperated IVR connected to the printed circuit. None of mine have that. The printed circuit plugs directly to the IVR.
I think this is not possible. The left part shows the internals of the original IVR, the right part is this mysterious part that was plugged inbetween printed circuit and IVR. Although this part would fit into the housing, the other part will then have be left out. Just to avoid misunderstandings - we are talking about a GT sport cluster with the extra instruments
I don't think the part with the red wire belongs there, never seen that. Wouldn't a wire coil like that actually increase voltage? Or maybe it's an extra filter to prevent radio noise? Anyway, I would leave it out and simply install a fresh voltage regulator.
its a Choke for FM reception If you are having a problem getting it shipped to you can have it sent to me and I can ship it to you
That is interesting, as the later car I got my current spare cluster from had an aftermarket AM/FM cassette deck, but didn't have that choke. So I'd wager that newer and aftermarket decks have internal noise suppression. Grumania, you should keep that choke, and if your sound system needs it, you can reinstall it.
It's a bit weird though: the parts manual illustrations show that part for all the 1973-79 instrument clusters, but the actual part lists only show entries for it for the 73-77 Bronco and the 78-79 Fiesta. So I guess that from 1973 on most cars didn't need one anymore, although I'm sure the parts manuals have its inaccuracies. Can't say anything about a 1972 car because my manual doesn't cover it, but better keep it then if it is there.
5.0 Chero - thank you for your friendly offer ! I'm still waiting for a shipping quote. It's always the same with my orders from the US.......a20$ part ends up at 60$ minimum !
My guess was not too bad............ Together with import charges, taxes, ect, it will end up in 100,- $ I`m out of words
I don`t think so, unless an invoice is packed with the item. They check it here at the customs and I think if it is labeled as " gift for friend, used car part ,value for customs purpose only 10$ " they will not charge me, except a little fee for the check. You would not believe what I experienced during the restoration, regarding shippings from the US. A Ranchero carpet for example, that costs 134,-$ ended up in 500$............
That would be very kind of you ! Got to go home now, being back tomorrow. Just tell me where to send what kind of money and I do it immediately in the morning. Thanks again, its nice to have people like you ! Ilja
Well, we're neighbors and I have that used part, too. It's untested and the 'old' (mechanical) version as you described, so if you want to I can help you out as well.
Thank you ! I will first try the newer, electronic version, although voltage its not adjustable. Looking inside my old (damaged) one, I think that this technique with a permanently pulsating bimetallic metal strip tends to fail with time. Ilja
