Yes it does, still remember my Brittany blue '68 stang from high school. Most of us will not see some variance in the way metal flake lays out. However a good body guy will see the difference across a parking lot.
Ah now the fun begins . Bought the car home for drive train install before final paint. As I can find some time will clean eng compartment and paint it, install eng and trans, then wire up elec fans, change rear shocks etc etc etc. But the burnout in my other car made me feel better, funny how that works.
NICE>>> Is that your bottle of disinfectant on the trailer? If you don't mind me asking... why drivetrain before final paint? Just curious.
Just some thirst quencher on trailer. Drive train before paint real easy don't have to worry about any damage to new paint. Use to hate it when people would get paint then bring car for engine to be rebuilt after much easier and less chance to damage anything, in other words imbibe as much as you want!
makes sense... I painted, then installed the motor/trans as a unit. We didn't do anything over the fenders, other then check space between the exhaust and the shock towers... we were either in front or under.
Good deal pony. Been doing engine swaps a long time by myself then the tuning comes in jets re-curve distributor etc. My help is usually Mr. Molson. though sometimes Cap'n Morgan or Mr. Beam make their appearances.
Good help is so hard to find these days... I am also a Bourbon guy, even stopped by Jim's house when we were in Kentucky last summer. I helped him bottle up a bottle or two. He was very hospitable! Enjoyed our visit!
Well got the trans back in the car, I think it gained weight setting on the floor. Heavier than i remembered lifting by hand and sliding jack under by myself. Now to keep on it after work and weekends. Turkey hunting took best part of week away from time to get stuff accomplished. Turkeys didn't cooperate but did get an offer to hunt gator in Fla in September, always an exciting hunt. Fedex lost a shipment of parts and Rockauto is a slow responder on this stuff was 1st supposed to be delivered May 13th then 19th had to wait until 29th for them to start an investigation into the lost shipment. Good thing I have plenty to do. Cryoaged the cylinder heads in the meantime wanted to do rotors at same time but they are part of lost shipment.
Good progress. Mine seemed to go together faster once the Engine and Trans was in. In about year two, every time I placed an order online. I had anxieties about receiving the parts, and them being the correct parts. Thank goodness I never had a shipment lost! By the time I was finishing, and after having to deal with paying shipping on returns. I would hit every local parts house, including the vintage parts house an hour away before I would resort to ordering online.
Thanks, PER. Just trying to keep things moving here. Painted eng compartment and have had multiple issues with that, "acid pop", paint lift from prep-sol, checking paint. So now am removing all paint that I put on to get down to good base to redo. Think "Murphy" tried to enter garage. Will just slow me up a little. First issue really ever had with ordering parts online
Pretty sure this isn't anything new to you... BUT. When I was getting started on Brittany, many had warned me about making sure everything was cleaned, recleaned, and dry before adding paint. Was so glad I had the car media blasted. Removed all possibility of fish eyes, and other problems that could have been caused by decades of storage in a greasy shop. After the media blast, and primer was applied, undercoated the under side and left the primer in the engine compartment. Used the POR-15 in semi-gloss black in the bay. Expensive! But worth it in the end.
I hear ya and agree. POR-15 works pretty well. I was using another companies product that is well known, now using what we have all used before from parts/hardware store. Just painted one side back in give it time to set up. More areas of sanding on other side to go before priming, then sanding and paint. Taking my time.
Been busy here but here's some pics of progress. Eng compartment Painted . Wire harness wrapped and re run back support. No pics of underneath have been sanding and spraying under there. Started on swapping heads found broken stand on rocker shaft assembly , parts ordered. Now to clean up some more stuff.
Yes... good engine porn... But, But ??? With that big electronic ignition box where it is? Where you going to mount the washer bottle? LOL!!!
Mount it to the shock tower. I saw a Fairlane with a ChineMSD unit; the bottle mounting was moved to the shock tower.
