Wuz up everyone brand new here i recently just brought a 1979 Ford Ranchero GT as a project car to do with my 7yr old son create memories. As far with Rancheros its definitely one of my top favorite muscle cars. So anyways im im starting from the bottom with this project so please any advice would greatly be accepted and appreciated im also looking for parts, as of now im needing of floor panels so any advice about that would be appreciated. Thanks
You have a reply in the Introduce Yourself thread on parts, but I have some advice: have someone knowledgeable about car bodies inspect it inside and out. I also have a '79 GT, 'Babe the Blue Ox,' and it has rust-throughs and damage in several places, but the worst places are the roof and pillars above the driver's door and the bed's front bulkhead seam, which will require extensive work when the time comes, but it's led to the floorpan rot she now has. Give yours a thorough inspection from the cab and behind the taillights, under the body itself, and in the cowl areas, in addition to removing the seat and carpeting/sound deadener for the floorpan.
Yeah so i completely took out everything from the inside and strip down to just the floor pans. As of now im sanding off the rust and sanding the whole floor pan down to the bare metal. Also have someone buying sheet metal to start the welding process next week. So my question is...the guy whos welding the floor panels are not necessarily automotive knowledgeable they do more fence welding and stuff in that natural. So am I taking a big risk here? Does it matter what metal sheet I use? I know it has to be the same width of the floor panels
Welcome to the Jungle. No not a Jim Rome fan, but like his saying... you will find a lot of help here! the one thing is that everyone wants to see the pictures... the more the better. JPEG format, less then 1MB in size, click upload a file. WAHLAH!
Welcome. I had the same issues with my '77. I bought '76 floor pans and modified them as well as used sheet metal to fill any spots I found after I got into the repair process.
