In August, a tree limb broke off and landed on the Ranchero GT hood.
Huge dent and crease. Fortunately, the fender was not damaged.

Recently received the quote from the insurance company.
The insurance company has all of the information about the Ranchero.

Issue: Insurance company identified the Ranchero as:
1972 Ford Ranchero 500 2 DR Standard Cab
    6 cyl Gaseline 250
    3 Speed Automatic.

The Ranchero is a GT with a Cleveland / C4.

This is an issue because the Ranchero 500 and GT use different hood.
The insurance company identified the hood as D2OZ16612C. This is likely the Ranchero 500 hood.
The insurance company price for the hood is $224, no longer available from Ford.

Does anyone know the Ranchero GT hood part number and price?

Does anyone know of a GT hood that is available?

    Thank you
    Dave (Tucson, Arizona)

Thank s Beerbelly, the hood looks good. The price is fair.
I wonder what it will cost to get it to Tucson.

I'm not sure I'd want to know, but maybe insurance would cover it??

I think the insurance company may consider it, I'll talk with them this week.
My path forward is to have the hood fixed, but it is pretty expensive.

Might try Greyhound, the bus people, and see if they can handle a hood. I have heard they do freight and weird sizes (to a point) are OK. Their website can give you some info.

I've had the Ranchero insured with State Farm for a little over 30 years....
My agent got involved quickly and things have been okay so far.
Biggest issue was the price of the hood, the estimate was $224 based on data from Ford.
So, I figure they may be using 1972 or 1982 dollars. The ratio of 1972 to 2020 dollars is 6.32, big difference.
With the added labor to paint the hood, it came out around $800.
I think they may bring a few more dollars to the table.

In my June 1979 Motor Crash Estimating Guide the 1972 Gran Torino hood w/scoop retailed for $179.25 Same price for the standard hood. When dealing older cars insurance pretty much has to pay whatever the parts are selling for supply and demand controls those prices.

Taking the hood to get painted shortly. I'm not to worries about the color match. Is there a color called bright green gold metallic with faded in patina? So, the hood will be really nice in a close to original color and the rest of the car will look 50 years old. It will likely take a few weeks. I'll post pictures when it is complete.

Last Friday, the local rodents feasted on ignition wires.... new cap, rotor and wires arrived yesterday. It was time to replace the parts, at least 15 years, so the field mice just pushed me forward to get it done. Parts prices, like everything else have gone up... and up...

It just occurred to me, i forgot to post a few pictures of the hood since it has been painted...
The rest of the Ranchero will need to wait for fresh paint...
Rust has done the doors in, I'll be looking for a pair shortly...
