Hi Guys, Not sure, if this is possible: I am looking to purchase a 72 Ranchero GT. I would prefer 351 or larger engine, possible C-6 Auto. The Ranchero does not have to be perfect, but should be rust free and a reliable driver it. don’t want to trailer it home. If possible one, i do not have to ship across country, so somewhere in the south east would be great. I am trying to stay below 3500.- thanks a lot ps, i would consider a 500 with a GT hood
Doable, won't be a show car. Be patient, search craigslist every few days, and the local rags. You can change the hood, there is even a fiberglass one of the kind you want available, so don't make that a deal breaker. Also, Rancheros do Ok with the little engines but in the long run you will find the 429 the best choice. Happy hunting!
thanks for the Info.. been doing the CL search for a couple of month now. found some here and there, but mostly were either too rough or too modified.. i like the original versions best. Im not in a hurry though.. waiting for the right one

thanks for the Info so far. I have looked at the above craigslist links, but they are on the west coast, so transport costs are high. that search engine mentioned does not work for me.. I have been looking on searchtempest for a while now (craigslist search engine) but i guess , there are not too many 72 rancheros around . But i am certain, i will find one one day
They are out there. Just keep watching the For Sale posts here and other sites too. I found mine on eBay for under $3,000 in 2006. It was a one-owner from East Texas and is rust free. It wasn't roadworthy (mostly because of tires and shocks) so I hauled it home on a trailer. It still needs paint, but I've been enjoying it anyway. If I was looking for one now, I would consider Rancheros on the west coast. One of our members from Georgia was able to get a great deal with the help of another member in California just a few months ago. Shipping is cheaper than rust repair in many cases.

had done checked on both of them. well, the one in Atlanta is rusted out and need total restauration.. but hey , its only 1500.- the other one looks good in pictures, but needs paint, tires and engine rebuilt... I will keep looking
California smog laws are shoving the 75 and later models out of the state. They can be picked up for a song.
Let me start by saying I have a 63 Ranchero and a72 Ranchero and I like them both. That being said Ranchero's DONT draw top dollar, so anything that is well used is a 800 dollar offer, 1000 if it has the motor and options you want. Mecum auction had a really nice 72 351C Ranchero go for 6500 and it appeared be totally restored. It might be worth the shipping cost if you find a rust free car in California. I'm sure you could have one of us take a close look at one for you before you buy and ship. Good luck.

The 74 looks alright but we don't know what the reserve is. I LOVE the 69 he has for sale...looks gorgeous but he wants 10,000 for it. Good luck on the hunt!!!
I would call a add 2 weeks after it expired and see if they still had it for sale. Then they were ready to talk. when they list a Ranchero at 10 grand or more the odds are that they really dont want to sell it anytime soon.
http://bham.craigslist.org/cto/2640031129.html talked to this guy.. engine rebuilt as well as tranny in 99 . new tires and paint in 99 as well as interior. he drove 25k mls since then. some rust spost already showing through in lower area. no oil leaks.. any thoughts on it, especially what it should be worth
Well, it looks pretty good in the pictures. What's going on with the tail gate? Is that Squire wood trim on it.....and is it crooked? I'm also curious about the "leather interior". I'm wondering if it really is leather - which I figure would be pretty expensive - or if it's really vinyl? I would ask the seller to email some better pictures before I judged it too much. With only those small pictures, it could be a good deal or it could be something you won't be happy with.
1000 tops. you can always raise your offer. Its not a sellers market and it's not on the Classic list. How many buyers are looking for a RANCHERO?
