Interesting that you're using that three-globe vacuum reservoir, instead of the #10 soup can, like Babe has. But you are right, smaller, more trim-line components make for a much cleaner appearance.

Ooooh, I like that 5.0 - tuck it under the inner fender liner. The only problem would be off road driving, but if driving this Ranchero off road, I have a whole load of other problems!
Oh wow, I drove the Ranchero all the way to the gas station and back, about 6 miles, without a total failure! Didn't even have to call a tow truck! I still have a number of piddly crap stuff to fix or replace - like the speedometer drive gear and the Holley Sniper monitor fell off into my lap while driving. I'm just hoping to make the local car show come September!
handy-andy ask how the paint looks after 10 years. Sadly, you do not want to look close. Plenty of mars on the front fenders. Probably during the engine installation. Could possible be buffed out of the clear coat. Bubbles showing up now on the right rear lower quarter panel. Ugh! So why is this?
What else could you possibly think that would cause "bubbles" in the finish? Maybe there wasn't rust there before, but now? Rust has to start somewhere, sometime.
Yes, as I understand it, if the paint finish has a flaw or such, it allows moisture in. Bubbled paint is known for doing that.
All bubbles, very tiny, are along the lower portions such as under the doors and that one low rear quarter panel. I do wonder if that just didn't get sprayed properly. Forgot to mention, I think the tiny bubbles are in the clear coat, not the paint. I did park next to a '38 Chevy at the local car show this summer. Guy had painted this car himself some 20 years back with that 2 part paint used back then before clear coat. Looked good to me but the guy said he had tiny bubbles growing in his paint as well. At least I felt better about this.
For the latest fix, I had Broader Performance of Texas build me a custom C6 transmission with their lowered 1st and 2nd gear ratios. Big Ranchero bucks but I've always wanted this for an upgrade and was sick of my existing C6 with the wrong speedometer drive gear. The transmission was installed this week and I made my first long drive, well 20 miles, to a nearby car show today. My gawd that Ranchero will accelerate off the line with that altered gearing. Well worth the bucks but then Ranchero should be spelled Ranch$$ero!
