Before we started camping, we stayed in Gainesville, about 25 miles away...
Andy & Todd stayed in Jasper last year...
IF you`re traveling after 8 am, you have that awful traffic to contend with...
AND if you leave after 4 pm, you have the same wait game...
One thing about camping though, we ain`t gotta get up anywhere near as early to get to Dawsonville and fight traffic to & from...

We`ll be happy to have you,
    D

Last year, when we left the Moonshine show festivities on Friday, my son(Jarrett) and I met up with some Grantorinosport.com forum members at Forrest Hill lodge. What a scenic drive through the Georgia mountains! Great views on the way back to Jasper on 136, had to stop and take a pic or two, 136 will test your brakes if you "push" your ride like I did mine ;).

Being from the mostly flatlands of Florida, "mountain" driving in north Georgia was a fresh change of pace for us and worth the trip by itself.

Yeah Todd, I keep telling Ann, "I need handlebars instead of a steering wheel in my hands"...
I`m gonna take my Bike one year and do the Moonshine Run on Friday with all of them "Moonshine Runners"...
There is plenty of curves, hills and roads with twisties in the area...
BUT then again, I`m dedicated to Ranchero.us and the Roundup...
However, I do try to get up thattaway a couple times a year...
One for the Moonshine Fest/RancheroUSA Roundup in October and another in April on the Bike for a weekend in the Deals Gap area with some folks from another forum...

    Dedicated to these,
    D

I`ve not seen anything on the 50th yet, but as soon as I do, I`ll get it posted along with our 12th RancheroUSA Roundup Celebration :D

I know some of the Ford Guys done reserved their rooms already...
It might not be a bad idea to get reservations now insteadda waiting...

I well imagine the 50th Moonshine Festival will be a Humdinger!!!!
This year, I was Looking at the numbered vendor spaces... I saw #714 near the end of them...
I also noticed numbered spaces such as #212 A through M along the several streets between the two main traffic streets full of vendors...
And that wasn`t including the 75(?) or so Swap Meet Vendors in the flat area...

Thank You RANCHERO.US for your support on this venture throughout the years...
    You Know who you are!

    I am Grateful to YOU,
    As Is '66

I keep hoping to see you newly recruited guys posting with us ;)

    An article I found>>

DAWSONVILLE — The area’s unique and storied past will come alive this weekend as thousands converge in nearby Dawsonville for the 48th annual Mountain Moonshine Festival.

"If we have weather anything like we're seeing now, we're going to have a great weekend for the festival," said Dawsonville Mayor James Grogan.

The festival will run from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday in downtown Dawsonville, which is accessible by Hwys. 9 and 53.

An estimated 100,000 visitors are expected, with many pulling into the town as early as Friday morning to be a part of a Moonshine Run. The run travels through the north Georgia mountains, where moonshiners of yesteryear made their living hauling the illicit spirit.

"That's the only life we knew from the time we were little," said Roger Mincey, whose father, Vernon "Bug" Mincey, is among five legendary liquor makers being inducted Saturday morning into the Moonshiner's Hall of Fame.

The men will be celebrated during the festival's opening ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday on the stage in front of BK Sports. It follows a parade through downtown Dawsonville with legendary Georgia racer Ken Ragan serving as grand marshal.

There will be activities for the entire family, including more than 500 vendor booths, one of the largest displays of race cars and hot rods, a silent auction and live entertainment.

Bear would be on the menu tonight! Wouldn't want to let him out of the stand with me on the ground, that's for sure. I'd either shoot him where he is or blind him with shit whilst he chased me(can't catch what you can't see), either way he wouldn't get me :D. We had a local news station air a story of a black bear sleeping in a backyard hammock, funny and concerning at the same time.

2 Stars guarantees you will bring home bed bugs and at least one STD.

Another good reason to carry my bed with me!!!
Overall, it does NOT cost any more for me to take the "Magic Bus" than to stay in a motel, and chance it...

    Heck no. Never happen.
    • I research the place I'll be staying before I leave
    • I thoroughly check the bed frame and mattress before I settle in
    • I don't stay in dumps to begin with

if I am lucky the bedbugs would offset the STD... unless there was more than one STD, then I would be in big trouble!

As I look for a link to share, there is a glitch....

I remember now the fact Dawsonville has a mayor who is opposed to this annual festival and had made changes last year...
There MAY NOT BE a 50th annual???
OR at least that was rumored throughout the weekend of the 49th...

PLEASE, If anyone finds an answer or link, be sure to share here so our members can make plans to attend...

    1957-2017
Our 60th anniversary of RANCHERO is this year also...
We were invited and I was able to attend our 50th anniversary, at Carlisle Carshow...
This is what inspires me to host our Ranchero Roundup event, each year...

    Memories are made Daily,
    D
