Just got back from cabin. Went up as this was the Jr/Sr hunt weekend not sure but think started Thursday. Dad had 1st doe skinned and quartered with 2nd doe hanging. Saturday started out raining and overcast so I didn't hit the woods for squirrels and other small game. Dried up enough I skinned deer and quartered it up for Dad so he could prep and bag it for him and mom. Then I hung some new lights in the cabin and put up a new antenna, need a taller mast to get channels better at least that's the theory.
Head back up next week to chase turkey for a week of Vakay. We did see bear while out riding around. Also had 3 bear on trail cam and a nice 8 pointer. Trail cams are set up in front yard of cabin !!
2 bears showed up the night that Dad got to the cabin could see the light in window.
Them squirrels are good eating !

Until this morning, I aint seen nothing since Saturday`s Dog encounter...
A smallish Doe showed up at 110 yards mark, I took a picture, she skeedaddled...

I'm getting old I guess and the diminishment of testosterone certainly has decreased my desire to kill game...oh, and I hate anymore getting cold, ha! I just feed the deer here anymore...though my .257 Mag Weatherby feels lonely.... ;)

Mmmmm, the stags are out in force this week. It's about another week to the start of hunting season here in TX (I just confirmed that yesterday), and three rutting bucks were in the rangeland on the other side of the back fence. I just wish I had a rifle and a permit.

John is seeing deer from his stand in the woods, I`m not seeing NOTHING! but them Dogs...

ALSO, I`m tracking the broadheads I ordered from Amazon, along with my "silicone oil" for my squirrel gun...
Coming from two seperate suppliers, from different parts of the country......
BUT WHY would something coming to GA from TN, go to Katy, TX???

    Both will here tomorrow,
    Dennis

There is a spray that kills that, but do you live with the smell, deer don't care and come nosing around, OR, you kill the smell, but the deer smell that chemical, and avoid the stand like the plague?

Yeah "Pooph" stink remover is advertized too, on TV frequently ;)

    It`ll go away in time...

    Lemon juice MAY work...
BUT as far as deer are concerned, I`m at the bcakside of the "Barnyard" and a new scent wouldn`t be noticed as bad as IF it were in the woods...

    Thanks,
    Dennis

Caught rutting going on in the rangeland behind the property. Man, I could've bagged a quick four-point at 60-70 yards. He made the mistake of stopping to track his quarry. Long enough to line up a quick shot.

Only thing I have seen in my neck o' the woods lately was a nice dead 6 point on the side of the road that a ton of vultures were feasting on... :(

Large deer carrying a 4 point headdress didn`t stick around but to grab a bite of corn and skeedaddle...
Didn`t even have time to make a decission much less grab my 30.06 ;)

I`ve seen him several times with his running mates of Quality Buck racks...
4 of them ran together, I waited for em,

Oh, yeah, I spotted a roadkill in the neighborhood, 4-point, it was hit so hard one antler was broken off. I had to pass it up going out but I was going to collect its antlers on the way back, and someone beat me to them!

Second week of the hunt filled my Doe tag with a young one. GOOD EATS!!!

Final weekend this SAT/SUN but appears that the rut is on. So with some luck will catch one chasing tail.
