Just installed an LED 3rd brake light. I tied it into the red wire going under the driver's sill plate and grounded to the b pillar.

When I hit the brakes with the lights on or off it works... but if I put on the right blinker it blinks, and the left blinker shuts it off.

    Really confused.

The feed for the brake lights is run through the turn signal switch so that the same bulb filament can be utilized for brake and turn lights.

This is the way almost all vehicles are wired.

You need to pick up the feed from the brake light switch before it runs to he turn signal switch. Someone familiar with your model year can tell you where the switch is located (probably on the brake pedal).

Good to know. There is a switch on the back of the pedal that goes up into the harness close to the flasher relay. I'll try splicing in there.

    Thanks!

Use a 12 volt test light to find the unpowered side of the switch.

On my 64, I connected the 3rd brake light where the brake switch wire connects to the steering column. I also added an emergency flasher switch & it connects there for the rear lights .

I have been in the market for a third brake light for awhile now. Where did you get it from? I don't want one of those cheap ones that have all the poor reviews, the billet aluminum ones I have seen on many different websites.

    Any recommendations?

I bought mine on Amazon. I made a custom bracket out of aluminum stock. It will mount using 3 screws that hold the moulding on & the wires will be hidden behind the molding down to the corner of the bed where I drilled a small hole for the wire.

Nice. Ill have to check it out. My car is prewired for a 3rd brake light but I have yet to find one that has any good reviews.
