Need some help with installing new shift linkage bushings. I installed the larger 3/8" ID bushing but just can't install the smaller 5/16" ID bushings. I took some advice (bad advice, I think) and installed the bushings onto the linkages first, then tried to install that into the levers. No go! I even tried softening them in boiling water for over 10 minutes but they never got soft! I can't even remove the new bushings from the linkages!

Any advice on what I should do next, try to remove the bushings, then install onto the levers, but how? I was even considering making a diagonal cut on the bushings to remove them, then install them onto the levers.

Any advice would be truly appreciated by this obvious rookie! Thanks! 1.jpg 2.jpg 3.jpg 4a.jpg 4.jpg

Bushings should be installed before shafts are installed. You will have to fashion some kind of support to hold the bushing up so you can get the shaft back out - may take a bit of a whack.

Yup, I could have done that! Bet you have to cut off those bushings and start over with a new set.

So I cut out the new bushings and no wonder why I couldn't get the linkage installed! The new bushing is so stiff, it almost feels like hard plastic, very little flex. I bought them from NPD, item 7341-3A, made with Nycast Nyloil (whatever that is).

Any suggestions where I could get better bushings, 5/16" ID? Factory parts manual says C7SZ-7341-A.

They are not intended to be installed on the shaft first - the whole idea is for them to NOT come out after installation. Get another set, install them in the flat holes, put some type of lube on the inside, and squeeze the shafts into place. I don't believe the original ones were that much different.

Yes, I understand that now, but I am asking if anyone could recommend where to buy them. I don’t want to buy the same ones again.
