I just checked and have not been on the site in 4 years! New wife, two new kids, life is good. Getting ready to sell a property and make some money and its time to redo/replace the 280,000 mile 351C 4V Q code motor.

Any ideas? regular rebuild, 408C Stroker, or 514 Stroker? Its a matching numbers car, but not worth much. Nice and straight, runs good on 7 cylinders. I'm going to treat myself and set a $10,000 limit. A buddy of mine is trying to talk me into a 514. I like that the numbers match, but like I said, the car is not worth much anyway.

I had Scotty Johnson in Seattle build me a 408C for my Torino 10 years ago and that engine is running great.

it really is up to what you want to do with the car...being a 'chero there are no rules...still with that build I myself would probably keep her stock.

You have a good engine that makes good power. No real need to make bigger. Good exhaust and electronic ignition. k&n filter. will move you right along.

No need to make it bigger?
    That borders on sacrilege.

That can be true I know
It's a personal thing for me last of the old school cobra jets.
If it was a 2v I would say 408 with a 4v carb and a good cam and decent compression. Be a screamer for sure

I'm also in favor of stock-ness; having said that, if he can do a stroker or conjure up some racing tweaks and keep it 'looking' original, more's the better. The only time I would say don't modify is if it did have inherent worth by completeness/originality and condition. I make no illusions about modifying Babe simply because the original engine 'blowed up reeeeal good' and I canned the boat anchor FMX. But I rode in a '70 Q-code (owned by the guy who traded me my '74 Squire), and that car was FAST bone stock. So it'll, of course, be up to him what he wants to eventually do, and we'll all support his decision, 100%, won't we?!?:D

BTW, Sir, this thread's useless without pics! Even the Torino's welcome!

Please keep that Q Code car stock. We need to keep as many as we can.

The pics may have disappeared after the change in bulletin board forum programs.

If you have the jack, there are many drop in crate engines on the market. At the very least, worthy of consideration.

That is worth considering--drop in something else to get you back on the road and have the engine and trans rebuilt at your leisure, and as money permits. Then when some restoration's been done, go ahead and pop them back in.

Yep even if it's a plain Jane 4v it's high compression and 300 ponies
The cobra jets went from 280 to 246 in horsepower. And we're low compression.

Hey, I know where you can score a '69 Continental Mk III 460-4V at a Pick 'n' Nose north of me. No carb, points ignition, but looks more or less complete. I bet on a 50% off weekend, you could score it for less than $200

OK, I'm moving along with the 514 Stroker. How much can i get for the entire 351 Cleveland 4V Q code motor? pretty tired, but never a problem driving it. I just drove it from SF to Orange County. Thats where the car is now. I'm going to put it on craigslist. Leave the motor in the car and let the buyer see/drive it then pull the motor.
