Yup, done that on front seals, too. Ya never know if the spring was installed correctly to begin with , I know I don't check them when they come out of the package . Hey, gotta say, that is some killer welding on that shaft sir, I am impressed ! I can try for the next 10 years and it wouldn't look maybe a quarter that good .
"Like stacked dimes" is what welds should look like, as a master welder once told me. Mine just look like stacked, well, you know.
Success, 5500 RPM without popping/bucking!New Bosch FP and filter was the ticket.New tail shaft seal was a fail.Still pours fluid out...I hate leaks.
COOL!! One down, one to go. Have you checked the tailshaft bushing for play? I've had more than one leak because of that. But congrats on the RPM fix - pull ok upstairs also?
New tremec T5Z Phil.Didnt WOT,just let her spin up.Didnt feel as responsive as it did with E cam,GT40-65mm set up but fine for now.Made a tool and and bought one to change tailshaft seal. Too old to rolling around on concrete fighting X pipe swinging a hammer...
Now THAT is slick - I concur - as I get older, I prefer to work smarter, not harder. My days of crawling around on my back are finished, unfortunately. And that's OK, too. Not really surprised it wasn't as strong as the other setup, but like you said, fine for now.
Tail shaft leak fixed, most of the fluid was coming from speedo cable.Reintalled VSS sender, cut cable end housing and plugged cable in VSS.Seems to be leak free now and engine does not want to die when coming to stop.Calling it a win!Minor oil leak from back of intake. Will address when GT40 intake goes back on.Interior back together and gave her a much needed bath.Really pleased with Tremec swap!Changed the whole personality of my chero, blast to drive.Still going to intall 3 point belts and dash cam.
My ranchero always had high speed driveline vibration since engine/trans swap back in 2009.Really noticeable on shifter with T5. Called PEM and ordered new tube,These guys are great, smooth as butter now.Installed new retro-belts as well.Anyone need a set of OE retractor lap belts?
Great looking car LS. I love the houndstooth seats; is that a factory fabric pattern? I know Chevy used that in the Camaros, but didn't know if Ford did.
Saw a brochure of houndstooth seat inserts on regional special production, but cant find it.I got the idea after seeing a drop top camero interior.Going to do the door inserts eventually..
Oil leaking back of manifold.Looks like not enough urethane.Rubber seals going in this time with GT40 intake.Popped for 65MM bbk TB.Big diff over stock unit!
Urethane? I always omit the rubber seals and use a generous bead of RTV on the china walls on all my 460's, never a leak issue....there. In my experiences with urethane sealants is once it gets up to the engine's operating temp, it tends to leach/separate especially when the hot oil/oil spray contacts it. I'd say THAT throttle body will wake it up a bit . Great looking Ranchero!!
All of the intakes I install in the shop I use "The Right Stuff" - it only comes in a short caulking gun tube, or in a "cheese whiz" type of container, it doesn't come in your typical toothpaste tube. It doesn't leak, seals incredibly well, but is EVIL to remove - takes a razor blade to get the intake back off. I haven't used end seals in decades, they're just not dependable.
My bad Todd,Yes silicon RTV.Been using Permatex for years,Just didnt stack it high enough..Should suck alot more air in now!More go fast.
All back together and running perfect.Went on 100 mile test run with no issues,no leaks.Except for lifter rattle at cold start up.Goes away couple seconds once oil presser is up.Should of installed new lifters on drivers side when head was off. Will pull engine again this winter and fix this, unless I blow it it up sooner.
Hell, try another 1/2-3/4 turn of preload - with theses new lifters, I had one that had to have 1 1/2 turns before it would stay quiet at start up. Worth a shot. Dry is nice, huh?
