I'm posting this, not to sell this for the OP, but to find out if the GT model could have factory side moulding as an option? The video is a body walk-around, less than two minutes in length.
MPC shows body side mouldings for 500 (Body Type 97D), but stripes only for GT (Body Type 97R). Pictured Ranchero shows no lower stripes. Maybe a 500 with partial decal kit.
Check the body code on the VIN sticker on the rear door jamb to verify GT or 500. I have personally never seen a factory GT striped Ranchero with the side moldings, but anything is possible. Great info above from 1978GT.
Yeah, see, I didn't think so. I'm going to save the 97R info for Babe, whenever it is that I get her bodywork done.
Especially true in last few years of production. Mine came with everything "GT": 48 VIN code, GT Stripes, Rallye Cluster, etc. etc. BUT the dash emblem was RANCHERO 500 instead of RANCHERO GT. That puzzled me until I learned that it was just a factory mistake and replaced the emblem with a correct one. There are lots of stories of 79s with inconsistent or incorrect parts. "Just put something on it and get it out the door." Not meant to criticize the assemblers, just the way it is with mass produced vehicles.
After watching the video those moldings are the kind that dealers and trim shops were sticking on cars back then, aluminum cut to fit with a vinyl insert, came in different widths, mostly seen in 1/2 ". I still have a few pieces kicking around the shop. Don't see them on hardly anything any more probably because of rust issues where the holes got drilled for the rivets.
