Hey all was thinking about removing my old ac evaporator from my hvac box as someone originally removed all the other ac components but left that in. my thinking was that it kept the hvac box sealed so my question is if I can remove it and keep my box sealed or would I have to buy a non AC box?
I'd leave it alone. Unless you have a complete heater assembly , under dash and all , to make it would be a lot of work. Besides that the heater core is a lot easier to change with the a/c box.
Hm ok. Might just remove it to make sure it’s not leaking any left over oil etc as I can smell something when I run my blower motor but otherwise I guess I’ll keep it
Totally agree with 1979 RANCHERO GT and pmrphil: leave it alone. No advantage to removing it and maybe someday you'll move from the tundra to the desert. Odor is more likely coolant from the heater core or its connections. If you decide to remove it anyway, here are a couple pics I took when replacing my evaporator. You'll notice that it is not a simple task. It requires moving a host of objects for clearance and boring an access hole in the RF wheel housing to loosen the nut on the mystery bolt. No fun job.
