Hey all. A few of you know about the rust problem in my '72 500.all along inside the roof skin (most of it is rusted completely through). As well as the frame of the roof. I've seen the "Red Ryder" Thread and gotten some ideas. any recommendations?

Through hours of frustration cleaning up the rust that falls in the cab, i've considered it

Dang ! I think I would find a donor and replace the entire roof if the rest of the Ranchero is sound. Noticed a Ranchero in Detroit at a Fairlane Club of America meetup a few years ago that had a removable steel roof made from an original roof. Nicely done too. Maybe Dan has photos of it ?

It's a body on frame rig, so if you desired, you could make a ragtop Fishmouth. That would be soooo cool.

Wire wheel all the crap off that front lip see what ya got left.If the inner structure is solid, you may be able to reskin.Inspect closely the A piller
and around drip rails for rust through. If you floor pans are dust you may want to find 72-76 host to swap front clip and drive line into..

Now all you need for that is the turret ring and mount, with a Ma Deuce.

Yep. The inner structure is the only rusted part. Checked the floors. Only 2 pinholes. This car (despite being a Q), don't seem worth it to me to replace the floors, so I cleaned em up, painted em and rubberized the entire floor.

Paid $800 for it. So far put about 300$ into it and don't think I need to spend much more to make it at least decent.

Dan the Ranchero Man may have better detailed photos. He was at the same Fairlane Club of America meeting in Detroit that year.

I just took a closer look. It's a "convertible" that has a hard top that you can put on? Two-person lift? That's pretty cool!

It's amazing what you can achieve with a couple of hours and a sawzall. Seriously though, nicely done.

You look at that Fishmouth and wonder why Ford couldn't tell their bean counters to shut the Hell up, so they could do that factory. The only thing I would add, that I'd build a rear 4-point roll cage, tie it to the frame.
