My Dad was an ordnance company mechanic in the 95th Division of Patton's 3rd Army in WW-2. Among other things, he brought back this spinner and a large piece of bomb shrapnel. I was told this came from an attack on their repair facility. He also said he should have asked for a Purple Heart from a resulting shrapnel wound. When asked why he didn't, he said because he got hit in the ass! When ask how he got hit in the ass, he said because he was running as fast as he could. I take it to have been embarrassing at the time to get hit in that fashion.

I was thinking this spinner was a German bomb fuse but I don't see anything like this in pictures of WW-2 German air dropped bombs. Besides, if a fuse, I'd think it would have been blown to bits. This is too perfect. Still this may not have been even German. The nut is certainly English and not a metric size.

    So any ideas?

Ah ha. Turns out to be an AN-M100A2 bomb tail fuze. I think it should make a hood ornament.
