I put in what I thought was a low ball bid on an RWS Diana 48 .177 caliber air rifle and won it! 'Course now in hand I find this air rifle to be in bad need of maintenance. Oh well, can't work on the Ranchero anyway in this miserable Colorado weather.

I have a Diana .177 that my dad and brothers gave me for my 50th birthday (gulp) 14 years ago. I’m not sure if the model number without looking. Sweet, accurate and powerful air rifle. It’s definitely high quality.

Thanks Jeff. Any suggestions for pellets to eliminate the danged purple grackles that have invaded my backyard? They kill off all the song birds. I'm thinking heavy pellets for kill power and to help limit the range.

Good question but I don’t know enough about pellets to give a credible opinion on killing power and/or range limitations. That said I’ve used Gamo pointed pellets with great accuracy.

So I offered a low bid on a RWS Diana 48/52 on e-bucks and won.

Turns out this 1993 vintage 48 was extremely dirty and beat. A good friend I found on the GTS air rifle website rebuilt the gun for me while I refinished the stock. I also added a scope while I was at it.

All is well except for barrel "droop". Rifle shoots consistently about 6 inches low and 4 inches to the left at my basement 30 foot target range. A droop compensating scope mount has helped but not nearly enough.

I have given an attempt at bending the barrel to correct for the droop but have gotten nowhere. Anyone else attempt this? I have got to rethink my technique for this.

There is a huge amount of spring in the barrel which makes bending most problematic. My feeling is that the barrel is straight but the misalignment is at the attachment to the receiver end of the gun.
