Thanks. Looks like we'll be pickin' up another passenger in Va. Should be a good time had by all and we just might learn something too.
Not much honor in voting for a man (or party) because he (they) offer you "FREE SHIT", paid for by another persons hard work. Honor ? Dignity ? Can't loose it if you never had it in the first place
Uh....I believe Rwitt started this thread by saying that he was going. Don't ever change, Louis. The Democrat party would be sunk if not for voters with short memories.
Observation: Perspective of folks taking the concept and twisting it into a personal attack against a fellow member instead of accepting the intended concept for what it is: A lawful and constitutionally guaranteed privilege and right for those exercising their free speech (first amendment rights) by the many folks that seek to see honor restored and the ideals of just and responsible government held accountable by the public that is served by it. Especially noteworthy is the political affiliation of those that twist it. And had this been a cause that you championed you would be offended by those that challenged it. End observation.
To be fair, I don't think they (liberals) can help themselves. I was watching CBS this morning and from what they were saying about it, you would think that Beck organized this just as a racist response to the anniversary of MLK's speech at the Lincoln Memorial. The CBS talking head was dripping with contempt for Beck but seemed to have high regard for Al Sharpton. As Louis says, "think thsat says it all".
Did any of you see the interview that Glenn Beck did with Al Sharpton? There seemed to be a lot of respect on both sides. I think anyone who saw it came away with a different view of Al Sharpton. I don't like Sharpon or Beck, but I sure as hell have to respect their business sence, and after all is said and done politics is a business.
To be fair, I don't think they (liberals) can help themselves.>Deny +++++++++++ Bah ... I help myself all the time. Too often, some say. If I knew what this thread was about I'd jump into it, but I'm basically mystified by the Glenn Beck thing -- he says it isn't political, but invites Palin and the tea party, and then in a truly bizarre move he preempts the King anniversary and site. I hope lots and lots of black people attend the event. Maybe Beck will play some of his old radio clips for the crowd. I wish him good luck at restoring honor. Whatever that means to him and those attending. I'd bet any takers that he won't be mentioning Gitmo, Abu Ghraib, warrantless wiretaps, CIA secret prisons, invading a UN country on a pretext [missing WMD] -- the elements that we libs believe are responsible for the loss of American honor. Instead, he and Palin will rag about excessive tax rates on rich people. This has eerie similarity to the mosque controversy. Beck has the right to hold his show there, but is it wise? Now there's a parallel he probably won't draw.
Maybe you can explain why this rally would be offensive to anyone. I've heard accusations that it is, but nobody has explained why. Do you think somehow that the steps of the Lincoln Memorial belong to blacks now...most of whom barely even know who MLK was, let alone what he said??
Yeah, I saw how this rally was originally touted as a 'Bipartisan' and 'non-political' event, but it sure don't look that way to me at this point. Maybe that's how it started out, but it ain't no more. With the self proclaimed 'Reverend' holding his 'Reclaim the Dream' rally down there tomorrow also, I can't see how any of this can turn out good. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail, but I seriously doubt it. You couldn’t pay me enough to bring my kids to the Washington Mall this weekend. Regardless, I think tomorrow evenings news casts should be interesting, to say the least.
The Tea Party is bipartisan. A fair number of members are Democrats or Independents. The Democrat party will not let anyone from the Tea Party run as a Democrat, which makes them look one sided. You might want to look into the movement a bit more deeply than just the evening news. I am not a member of the Tea Party movement, and have never been to any of their gatherings, but I know 3 people that do and 2 of them are Democrat union members. Also, the Tea Party is fielding a larger percentage of black and women candidates than the two main parties.
Do you think somehow that the steps of the Lincoln Memorial belong to blacks now...most of whom barely even know who MLK was, let alone what he said?? >Deny +++++++++ Oh, Denny Denny ... I think that most American blacks know quite a bit about MLK. And a bunch of grateful white people also. Here's an interesting test: Google "four score and seven years ago" and compare hits to "I have a dream". Where have you been living for the last 47 years?
Maybe it really is bipartisan, because I know 4 people that are leaning towards, or have joined up with, the Tea Party, and all are, or were, Republican's. Hell, I was all for the Tea Party when it started. I think this country needed something other than the two useless, bickering, jerk-hole parties we've got now. And then some politicians that I can't stand hopped on the wagon (i.e. Palin). My point about tomorrow is this; Two potentially large groups of people are going to gather on the Mall. One is very upset with the other. I’ll bet there will be shouts and taunts, and I hope they do not escalate into something worse. This has been simmering for decades.
Maybe it really is bipartisan, because I know 4 people that are leaning towards, or have joined up with, the Tea Party, and all are, or were, Republican's. >sean +++++++++++++++++++ I find it amusing how many people try to pretend they are not Republicans -- right up until election day, when their true colors show.
I went to the 1st one at the Ca Crapital 4/15/09. Everyone there was nice and in good spirits. I was surprised when I saw the nightly news.
In the local elections in my area, most people run as either Republican or Independent. Around here, Independent is a code word for "I'm really a Democrat but I don't think I can get elected if people know that".
Yah, if you work for the government or the university system in CA you have to keep your head down and pretend to march in the Stalin mindset or you will not advance and maybe even lose your job. A longtime freind of mine works for the city of Berkeley, drives a Prius with an Obama sticker on it, he is to the right of Rush but puts on a show for the fools as that is all they care about.
Well, as it turned out, the Americans that gathered had no desire to harm anyone, and Sharpton's goons were too intimidated by being outnumbered 1000 to 1 to gin up their usual antics, so all went well.
It was a great event. Don't know how many were there but it doesn't really matter now does it. No speeches on taxes or political partys just on how we, as individuals and as a nation, need to return to God. I'm glad I went.
