I've always had an odd fixation with that gen El. Granny had a same vintage Malibu when we were growing up and I guess it's nostalgia. I wonder if those can be had cheap these days... Not that one though.
They can, and accept any number of LS engines easy and peasy.

I once had a '78 Malibu 2-door, and another time, a '79 Malibu wagon, but even back 25 years ago, the El Caminos around here, basket cases included, were gold-plated, so they were always out of my reach.
Agree on the sledge hammer thing. But that's no different from more than a few cars around here during the deer rut.
