Isn't this typical?: ordered Herculiner from Amazon and when I opened the can it was not black...nothing on can saying what color other than a manufacturer's number and I re-checked my order and YES I said BLACK. I went ahead and applied it (no returns on that item) and don't really like it...UGH! I'm waiting to see if the replace it...?

That's exactly why I try to buy local, even if it costs more. No returns even if THEY screw up?? That would be the day . Why did you even apply it, after seeing it was wrong?

Top coat the Herculiner with (brush on) Rustoleum Truck Bed Liner (Walmart). You'll get a black finish with a bit more gloss.

Years ago, I applied Herculiner to the floor only, then Rustoleum to the walls, tailgate and floor. I like the texture of Herculiner on the floor, and I top coat all with Rustoleum every few years.

Because I opened the can...thought "maybe" it would look alright...wrong at least to my taste...

I'm waiting to see if they replace it like they say...? I did some checking and the part number is correct for black but that sure wasn't what was in the can. I'm supposedly getting a refund...

I'm following your suggestion and picking up some Rust-oleum today. What's been interesting to learn is that I would have saved $ and time if I had just purchased locally...so much for "cheaper" on Amazon!

Your photo shows a sticker on the can "Part # HCL 1G3". Google search shows 1G3 to be paint code for Toyota Magnetic Gray Metallic.

You're lucky that the "HCL" stood for Herculiner, could have been hydrogen chloride.

I'm with Phil, buy local. No Amazon/Prime vans roll up to my crib.

Nice job! Black is beautiful, especially against a sharp red.

I would still pursue money back from Amazon, I think Bezos can afford it.
