My car is back from paint and the black rubber piece above the bumper and under the tail lights is not holding up to well already. What do you call that? What have you guys done in that spot, is there a special kind of paint, are there new ones I can buy that are fresh and not cracking? I attached a picture, what I'm talking about has the lil red X drawn on it. Screenshot_20190612-231517_Gallery.jpg

It's supposed to be body color, I am 90% sure, and the paint should have a flex additive when it's sprayed there.

As a side note, that front corner looks like it belongs on a Wagon Queen Family Truckster.

What paint system did they use on the car?

On the cars I've painted with the flexible parts there is a Sem primer made specifically for those parts. Once flexible parts are surface prepped properly and primed with the correct primer the modern paints have enough flex to stand up to years of typical use.

Maybe our resident body shop owners can chime in...

To be honest, I got the paint done from my friends cousin who has a body shop. It's not the best paint job and I'm not sure what the paint system is exactly. Its sherwin Williams paint. My dad said that it should have a flex additive in it also. He is a mechanic for USAIR. We are going to get the left over paint and fix it. I paid 3k to get it painted, which he took down to bare metal. It's not the best job, I have lots of over spray to correct also. Its pretty good considering I couldn't find anything close to what he did for south of 6k.

Is it base coat/clear coat or a single stage system. Sherwin Williams has a good automotive line of paint.

It is base coat/clear coat. The paint before was a single stage and it was terrible.

My paint dude sez prep with a primer designed for flexible parts, the base coat clear coat should have enough flexibility inherent in it with proper undercoat materials present.

I want to apologize for making fun of the later model year Ranchero's. All Ranchero's are cool. My opinion on which ones I think are better looking than others should be considered just that; my opinion. Didn't want to hurt anybody's feelings. Just talking like we used to talk about cars when I was a teen.
