Anyone know of a service that will repair older auto sound systems? Mrs. Jeff B has a 2000 Honda Civic with the OE AM/FM radio/CD and (gasp) cassette deck. The volume switch is giving us fits and the sound is not great in the doors or package tray. I do suspect that the speakers could be toast, but it would make the Mrs. very happy to get the original unit fixed up. I also understand a new replacement unit would be better and possibly cheaper. TIA

Is the problem that the sound is "scratchy" when you adjust the volume? If your answer is yes, I will give you an easy, inexpensive fix.
1. Disconnect your battery (pull the negative terminal) 2. Remove the volume knob 3. Place a small funnel over the volume control shaft (to protect from overspray) 4. Using the nozzle, apply a light amount of WD-40 onto the shaft 5. Twirl the shaft back and forth several times to work the WD in Wait a few minutes before testing. In most cases, this will at least temporarily solve the problem. If it recurs, you can repeat the process.
