Chasing a rattle

    So I've had this rattle that's been bothering me, and what better time to try to track it down than during the lockdown. It sounded like it was near the top of the package tray, so I spent some time tapping stuff around there and adding some sticky-back weatherstrip. Then a test drive, only to find no difference. Well, after 5 tries & road tests, I finally found it at the top front of the passenger door panel. Apparently the rattle was traveling down the panel trim bracket to the end of the door.

    I'm pretty sure there will always be rattles in these old cars, unlike my wife's Honda, which is snapped together like Legos.

    your lucky you found it I worked at American Motors building Ramblers back in the seventies
    I will guaranty you there were rattles and squeaks in them cars that a normal human would not find
    such as 3 or 4 spot welds missed as they went down the line
    empty beer cans put in the doors as they installed the door panels
    1/2 pint bottles put between the dash and heater housing
    I saw all kinds of stupid stuff done

    Yep some of the stuff was done to cause issues
    some of it was so they wouldnt get caught with the empty bottle/can
