Had a close one the other day. Went to take the ranchero for a ride. Started up OK and then smelled something funny started to pull out of spot in warehouse and then the smell got stronger "acidic". Next had some smoke. Shut car off and popped hood so I could undo battery if needed. Slid in under dash and could see smoke but couldn't identify where exactly. Reached out and turned key on and instantly saw sparks/glowing in radio, shut key off. Removed radio, original Am and it wasn't even turned on. At least didn't have to go through another car fire/burndown. Went for the ride after removal and completed the burnouts and speed run to make me feel better !
WOW ! ! ! At least didn't have to go through another car fire/burndown. UNQuote I`m Glad for you, Dennis
Car fires scare me....whish those halon extinguishers weren't so damned expensive! I had a Predator carb on my mustang, at one point, along with a 429....the combination of 4300ft altitude and hot summers made for frequent heat soak/boiling fuel in carburetors....one time I had a fire and put it out with a dry chem....after that I learned my lesson and went with halon. Thank God I never had to use it. Glad you caught yours in time.
Well must have used up all my luck on the radio. Didn't hit the lottery ! Yep had a 71 stang burn down many years ago. Yes dry chem makes a mess. Though yesterday took her out for a ride and burnouts. Always feel better after that ! Came into shop and said good air out there. Today my buddy said he checked the Grove for air and it was 400' below sea level. Should be some good runs tonight and tomorrow.
