I am not a Cop basher. However these guys are definitely in the wrong here. They had all the tools here to prevent this and they blew it. How about a couple shots with the bean bags and then release the dog. Not shoot with the real thing then bean bags after. I wonder if this is a big story by CJ? Does this guy truly appear to be a threat at this distance??? I am not saying it may not have ended the same way but the steps taken were ass backwards. http://www.realfarmacy.com/apd-kill-homeless/
My first reaction to that was that it must be fake, but I guess it's real because it's all over the internet. I realize there are times when police have to make split-second decisions that could cost them their life if they hesitate, but this doesn't appear to be one of those times. Somebody will do some prison time for that......and they deserve to. What's scary is that I didn't hear anyone speak up to tell the shooter to stop.
The guy was a fair distance away, and had a small knife in each hand. Cops are being trained as if the rules of engagement are the same as in war. If the person is armed, they are killed. Try telling a cop that they are a public servant, you risk a very rough time. Recently an old man got killed during a traffic stop for getting his cane from the bed of his truck as he got out. It's a sad situation, but dealing with a cop today is as dangerous as dealing with an armed gang banger. In some ways, more so, as the cop is immune from jail if he takes your life.
Boyd was arguing with police for more three hours last Sunday in the foothills after officers went to talk to him about illegally camping in open space. Chief Eden released video of the moment when officers first contacted Boyd. When one officer went to frisk Boyd, the homeless camper could then be heard refusing to comply, saying he was a government agent. The video shows Boyd continued to refuse officer commands and began threatening their lives. (Boyd said) “I’m almost going to kill you right now. Don’t give me another directive. Don’t attempt to give me, the Department of Defense, another directive,” said Boyd at the beginning of the incident. As the hours passed, Chief Eden said an APD Crisis Intervention Team officer and a State Police liaison were called to the scene. Both attempted to speak with Boyd, however, Chief Eden says Boyd continued to threaten officers with death. Police also discovered that Boyd had a violent 20-year criminal history that included multiple incidents of violence against officers. Boyd’s history also showed years of mental health related concerns. Video shows when officers moved in on Boyd around 7:30 p.m on the night of the shooting. At the beginning of incident, Boyd can be heard saying, “In a private world, if you were down at a bar or a bus stop, I would have the right to kill you right now because you’re trying to take me over. Don’t get stupid with me!”
They had non lethal tools at their disposal to TRY first before blasting this guy. Like I said maybe it still ends this way but not using other methods first was their mistake. If they hammered the guy with beanbags and that did not work, then he ran toward the cops with the knife, they had the right to blast him. This did not happen here, no matter what trash he is talking.
A few years ago a BART cop here executed a young man by shooting him in the back while another officer had him pinned face down on the concrete in cuffs. The kid was mouthing off. That murderer walks the streets a free man. Back when we were a constitutional republic there was an effort to apply the laws equally to all. Now that we are a socialist tyranny there are classes of people that are above the law. Look to the history of Venezuela over the last 20 years if you want a map showing where we are heading.
Death for the capital crime of "Illegal Camping in Open Space". Hmmmm. Any bets that had it been a person within a minority that the usual suspects would be crawling out of the woodwork screaming for a violation of his civil rights investigation?
The guy shot in the back by the BART cop was black. There were riots here over it. That said, I have never heard about any riots over a white guy getting a street justice death sentence by a cop.
That was a Keystone Cops debacle. The OPD has worked very hard for many years at reducing the number of supporters they have among the public. They fear us so much that if you say 'Good Morning' to one of them, they put a hand on the gun. The cop cars are all black, the uniforms black, and they carry more weapons than a Mad Max character. Many wear full tactical and carry an AR when out of the car.
When I first saw the video that's what I thought they were doing - shooting him with some sort of rubber bullets or something. I couldn't believe they were actually shooting him in the back, especially when he was face-down on the ground. I know police sometimes have a tough and dangerous job to do, but this was neither. It makes you think about how fast things could turn very bad for any of us if the police came to the wrong address or somebody who didn't like you made a false report. Too often it seems like the police aren't interested in having a conversation. They just want you to comply with their orders.
That's it. We're now in most places a militaristic police state. Look at teh way these guys are dressed, do they even look like police? They look like imperial storm troopers more than police.
law enforcement has a big problem with their abuse of power. officers need, first to be educated as to what their role IS, not what they perceive it to be.
Amen to that. We all need to be watching the situation with the BLM and the rancher in Nevada right now. I hope it ends well, but..........
An army of over 200, helicopters, and building a command post. All over one man accused of the crime of refusing to submit. This will go down in history as the most expensive cattle rustling operation ever. They have taken his cattle, taken his land, jailed his kin for no reason, and will likely take his life. The Governor of Nevada needs to be impeached for not calling out the National Guard to protect this citizen from the army of armed bandits.
Looks like Obungle is getting worried about the possibility of a governor calling up the Guard. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/apr/9/national-guard-loses-war-army-over-apache-transfer/
It's possible I guess. However, if that was the motivation I believe it would be a wasted effort. Our National Guard and full-time military forces will never turn on one-another on a large scale. I firmly believe that.
Lincoln held the same belief. He ended up changing his mind. I suspect that not long ago you also believed that the federal government would not create a separate armed forces, complete with tanks and helicopters, so as to circumvent the posse comitatus act. Yet you see it displayed in this case.
