That's what I love about Carl ! Always clear and concise, never a question about his for sale parts or what he meant talking to you. In possession of fine wit and humor too when he needs it to make his point. Bravo Sir, well said !

I like Clarkson. One of the very few "personalities" not afraid to strike back. Thanks for that, Carl.

Prior to this, a self driving uber car was in an accident...I think that was also in Tempe! One of the cars flipped over....to the self driving car's defense, the other car ran a red light.

If a car pulled up to me with no driver and asked me if I needed I ride. I would be looking for Allen Funt. But no way am I getting in the car.

Reading about it I found out that the 'driverless' car requires the human operator to intervene, on average, every 0.8 miles.
I suspect they are counting the mileage done on test tracks, so the average in real life is probably even worse. Also they don't mention the ratio, miles driven unaided VS miles driven aided. Is it drive 0.8 miles unaided, then 7 miles aided, until a situation it can handle comes up?
Also, was this vehicular manslaughter? Unless ran out from a hidden position, it likely is. It could even be vehicular homicide if the software received input related to the pedestrian, yet directed the vehicle forward anyway.
Who goes to jail in either case? To date, no death related to these things has resulted in anybody being punished.
Do we really want machines with the capability of killing people operating independently with no one responsible when people are hurt or killed?

Well if the cars at fault it will cheap jail time run them thru the shredder after the mandatory ten year appeal process. They just have to sit in field
