Share a picture or story about a Ranchero beating out an El Camino. Rather it be racing or a car show or even a stereo contest.
Went to an ElCamino gathering last weekend-----made it out alive. I am part of this club and we have this event every year, but this time I brought "Old Blue" just to stir the pot. This pic was snagged right off a post at ECC and I did not take it. The upside is-----made an 800 mile round trip over the last week without a hitch----and 20+mpg
I'd rather have a 1969 SS El Camino, 396, 4-speed, than any Ranchero ever built. That's one sexy beast.
Won't get too many stories of 'Chero's beating up on ElCo's.... The average versions of either 351 couldn't handle the 350, The 400M was a dog against the 396/400SB/402 and the 429/460 didn't have a prayer against the 454. The best chance the Chero ever had against an ElCo was a 351C4V vs a 350 4bbl with a long straight stretch of road.
You belong on another forum too. LOL A friend had a 70 SS, silver with black stripes and cowl induction, 427, 4-speed. Totally useless because zero traction.
Always been a Chevy guy... now I have a new Mustang, a Gen 1 Mustang, working on a 72 Chero and a SooperDooty in the garage and I can't figure out how they slipped in on me... Guess I'm just a Chevy guy trapped in some Ford bodies...
Kid up the street has a 59 project, seems to be taking forever though. I used to have El Camino envy when I had my first Ranchero, this time around other than preferring the Chevy small block to the Ford small block I'm pretty content and always look forward to driving it.
I prefer the Chero's styling to the ElCo, but would take the Chevy motor over the Ford. Maybe some cutting, welding, heating and beating would yield the best of both worlds... Imagine a sleeper 72 with some LS power... I once knew a feller that had him an AMC Javelin AMX that just beat up on everybody and we couldn't figure out how he ever made an ol' Rambler motor so fast. I went by his shop one day and he was under the hood and had the stereo jammin' and didn't see me coming in time to close the hood. Shore 'nuff, he had transplanted a built 454 Chevy and a Turbo 400 into the X. The secret was out.
The kid will need all the support he can get----this is not an easy project unless one is willing to modify a LOT of stuff. Had a hell of a time with mine----only body modification was the antenna relocation if someone were to desire a stock one----mine could easily go back to stock, but it is only slightly "personalized" My 66 Elky was a piece of cake compared to the 59----easy to get parts for My lil blue Ranchero did not need a lot----interior panels and covers, window rubbers & paint
I never did have any model envy. I always sort of liked the El Camino; in fact, it was my awareness of them that made me stoked when I learned that Ford had a hybrid like them too. Seems I never saw Rancheros growing up (or didn't realize one when I saw it, youth), so when I learned that they were based on my favorite vehicle, a 74 Torino, I was hooked and never looked back. I will say, however, that the 73 El Camino/Malibu is one of the ugliest vehicles I have ever seen in my life. That goes way back for me, like 35 years. There was some kind of instant repulsion to it for some reason. But I always kinda liked the early ones and later smaller square versions (78+). But I have to admit, I can't wait for the chance to own another 73 or 74 Chero.
Share a picture or story about a Ranchero beating out an El Camino. ============================================== My old Boss owed me $4,000 and offered me his Black 85 El camino SS as payment because it was smoking and no longer passed smog test. I installed new valve stem seals ($6) and drove it nearly trouble free for 3 years. I then loaned it to my Nephew while he was away at school. I got the beast back 4 years later and installed a new driver seat and re-painted the roof, hood, and tailgate. I then sold it to a Jap for a very cool $7,500 YOU CAN'T "BEAT" THAT... even with my freebie 79 Chero
those 73-76 GM A bodies were a work of art (sarcasm) and the only decent looking ones were the 73 Buick Century and the 73 Olds Cutlass-----all others---ugly as sin. That being said, if I happen across a decent 73-76 EC and can sneak it onto the property before she sees it-----it might just happen. Besides---I already have all the manual transmission stuff for one. Dunno----after 40 years I guess they are growing on me------kinda like the 88+ Chevy pickups that look like a cockroach (I have a 98 K1500---cockroach)
Ha, cockroach. Same thoughts here. There are cars that 20 years ago I would have beaten with a sledgehammer just because, that now I would like to have simply because that era has passed and the cars are disappearing forever. Like a 79 Monte Carlo, or an 84 Cutlass.
The cars have tires that would be handy for his periodic bonfires, and his lawn seems to like the iron rich environment.
