the only real way is to cut it off. rust is cancer to a car, you can slow it, but it comes back. but if you cut it out, and put in new steel, you will be good to go. *rust never sleeps*
well i got the tools for the brakes today and got the drivrs side cylinder off i dissassembled it but can not get the bleeder screw out what could i be doing wrong the screw is very worn down though
My advice would be to buy new/rebuilt wheel cylinders for it -- no telling how old your parts are. Else ... get a can of penetrating oil [forgive if you already know about that aid] and give it a good squirt -- then as suggested up the thread get vise grips onto the bleeder body and twist back and forth until it gives up and unscrews. THEN go out and buy a new cylinder -- or at least get rebuild kits and new bleeders -- and learn the fine points of honing a wheel cylinder. But note well, brakes are critical, and it is not good economy to skimp on brakes. Wheel cylinders are so central to the problem, and so cheap, that to me it only makes sense to replace them with pro rebuilt parts.
I would suggest getting new cylinders. It's not worth the time, money and effort to buy kits and get a hone only to find the cylinders are too badly pitted to save. With new cylinders you'll have peace of mind.
Yeah, that's the way to go. Which reminds me, I need to do the rear brakes on mine. Got all the parts. Just need to get off my lazy butt and do it.
hey everybody, havent been round in a while but now that im here how the heck do i get my starter off the manuels dont seem to explain it well but its probably just me
??? Mine is held on with two bolts, take them out from the front side of the car. There's also a heavy electrical cable coming from the starter solenoid.
got my starter off with ease going to get it tested at advance auto parts tommorrow but i have been looking through my shop manuels and i cant seem to find how the starting system is hooked up so i can get a better understanding on how it works i know it goes from the batt. to the solenoid to the starter but where does the coil come in and what does it do im sure you all can help me because your very expirienced with rancheros and for that i envy you all thanks for all the time you guys spend helping me and others like me (unexpirienced) its a huge help
he was! new gas tank and lots of other good loot which brings me to my next question how do i take off my old gas tank and should the new one be coated with anything
Drain gas unhook filler tube, remove fuel line to pick up unit, remove wire(s) to pickup unit. remove bolts holding straps, drop tank remove vent tube on top of tank. Pull out tank from under the car.
Make sure you release the parking brake, and they should slide off, If stuck like I recently had happen, I took it to Pep Boys for one of their free brake inspections and they were able to pop it off, and the next time at home, it came right off.
