So I got the news that I will be having my own family in 7 months from now and can't haul a baby in the cruck sadly. I'm on the market for a reliable four door car that I could get around 2000$, doesn't have to be pretty but mechanically dependent. Anyone have any ideas or thoughts?

Hopefully I don't have to sell the cruck to get a car, that's why the price range is so low right now. If it comes down to it though than I'll have to part with her for what's coming up.

By all means, keep the Ranchero and buy an old POS to haul your baby around in. You can always make a new baby, but finding another old, ugly Ranchero, that's another story.

Try to find a big SUV for around $2K. Strap the kid in the back seat, middle.

If you sell the chero then your budget would go up to what, $2500? That should get you a 200k mile suburban, which could haul your herd with ease.

Imagine how much nicer his life would be not having to look at that lemon-colored monstrosity in the yard.

Plus 5 brand new Benjamins in his tattered Velcro wallet. It's a win-win.

Don't forget... Being a father doesn't mean you have to grow up! In fact it's a good excuse to frolic with abandon again. How old are you anyway?

Does Revell make a model of the 4-door Vette?

Seriously, is it really illegal or impossible to haul a baby in a Ranchero? Would that be different than for some other kind of pickup?

It is neither illegal nor impossible. A baby, in a rear facing seat attached securely in the middle of the bench seat, is as safe in a Ranchero as in a Volvo. The thing about old cars is there is no place to properly anchor the baby seat. New cars have strong attachment points for that very purpose.

You didn't mention whether or not gas mileage is an issue. If it's not, then they aren't wrong about finding a Suburban or Tahoe in that price range. It doesn't even have to look bad or have really high mileage. The 1999 and older models are just really hard to sell because of the older body style.

Have you considered a mini van? They also aren't hard to find in that price range.

Crown Vic they have a middle rear seat tether for car seats. Could find a decent one from some Grandpa for about that price range. They are a pretty reliable car and congrats on the baby.

Actually, a minivan is a great idea (werid, coming from Denny). I say go for it.
