Figured this could just be a reference for first-time Ranchero buyers, and what platform theirs is based on.

    First generation (1957–1959):

    · Based on Full Sized Ford Passenger Car Platform

    (Ranch Wagon, Sedan delivery, etc.)

    Second generation (1960–1965)

    · Redesigned and now based on 2 Door Sedan Ford Falcon. (Smaller form factor)

    · Became slightly larger in 1964 Redesign

    Third generation (1966–1967)

    · Falcon and Fairlane redesigned, Ranchero based on both

    · In late 1966, the Ranchero switched to a Fairlane front-end style

    · Trim adopted from Fairlane, newer models named Fairlane Ranchero.

    Fourth generation (1968–1969)

    · Platform is now based on Fairlane/Torino. The Ranchero Shares attributes of both vehicles, while becoming larger and more angular.

    · Ranchero now has add-on options of both the Fairlane and Torino.

    Fifth generation (1970–1971)

    · Still based on Torino. Squire Trim level added (based on Ford’s Country Squire).

    · Ranchero or GT badge may now appear on grille or glovebox

    Sixth generation (1972–1976)

    · Torino and Ranchero completely redesigned, adding the “Fishmouth” grille in 1972.

    · Three models were still available: the standard 500, the Squire, and GT

    · The 1973 Ranchero had a redesigned front end to meet new federal standards, (Brougham trim added)

    Seventh generation (1977–1979)

    · The Ranchero was restyled with the Ford LTD II, now has completely redesigned front-end and slightly different body

    · Ranchero could be ordered in more luxurious form

    · Production ceased in 1979

Gen 7 was also known as the Land Yacht generation (aka Hideous Beasts, aka Bloat Bag, aka Vomit Haulers, etc.)
