    Hi togehter,

i am searching for the rubber-gasket (just the rubber between the cap and the car) of the fuel cap for my 72 Ranchero.

I just took ones from a home-market but they are not resistent against gasoline and they smelt away in a few month.

Does anyone where to buy ? I just can find complete caps.

    Regards from germany
    Klaus

    Guten Tag Klaus,

If you don't want a new cap because it will not match the color of your Ranchero, why not just transfer the gasket from a new cap to your existing cap? I hope this makes sense.

    Hi. 1978GT,

well the color doesn't matter, because the old one is in silver/crome.
if i said i just can find "complete caps", means i can see them in the www. but i am not sure if they really fit.
So to buy a new cap sendig it to germany will cost some transport fee and if it is possible just to get a rubber gasket it can be send in an envelope, and perhaps it is a litte more cheap.
If there is no possibility to get of course i'll have to buy a complete cap and follow your idea.
I just thought that this rubber is a usual part which is available everywhere in the USA.

Yes, that makes sense. If you post photos of your cap maybe one of us here in the US can send you a gasket that will fit.

An original style cap will have a flat gasket, but an aftermarket locking cap (Stant, etc.) will have a formed gasket.

Tthe upload doesn't work because "too large" (3,6 & 3,7 MB)
I remeber last time (years ago) another member did it for me.
May i send these two pictures to someone who ist able to place them here ?

well my cap looks like the black one (plastic?) above but it´s the material of the other one but without they keys.

Buy a sheet of Nitrile, Buna-N rubber locally.
I bought a sheet from a plumbing supply store and made a gasket for my honda quad gas cap.
The sheet was about 12 x 12 and cost about 12 bucks
Nitrile, Buna-N rubber is fuel resistant

Most gas neck fillers are universal size, take your original cap to your local parts store and see if they can match it to a cap with a similar gasket. Has to be cheaper than importing one from the U.S., just a thought, Skip.

Klaus sent me his pictures this morning so I've re-sized them and uploaded them for interest.

I must say that the cap looks remarkably like the aftermarket ones posted above and I'd also be tempted to make a seal out of a flat sheet of rubber.

Dave, thank you for posting the pictures.
Well, as i see all the new ones and the rust/scaps on my one i think perhaps its better do buy a new one....

LSChero, the price for the Cap G701 on ebay is USD 50,-- for the moment ecxl. shipping. Thats double than yours, where is your invoice from (dealer) ?

Meanwhile i found a gakset from a Motorbike (Honda). The measurement is outside 58mm; inside 38mm x 3mm
Because my one is already gone, does anyone know the measurement of the gasket ?
