NICE! I also like it as it sits. The flat black hood is overrated in my opinion. A fad of the late 60's, early 70's, of the flat black on the nose cones of fighter jets. Looked good on flashy aluminum... not so much on car hoods. but to each their own!
Go drive a 70 / 71 without the flat black on the hood. Sooner or later you will catch the sun's reflection just right and end up temporarily snow blind. It ain't funny if it happens on a twisty road at speed.
Hell, I've had that happen with Babe's hood (when she still had viable, shiny paint on it). The flat black is for glare, fad or not. And on these cars, it looks good with yellow, although the green one from the front's no slouch, either.
It used to be that the only part that got painted black was the raised portion in the center of the hood! But each to their own! I will definitely not bad mouth a man, or woman, for the decisions he/she makes on his/her car. But if asking for an opinion... Don't paint the hood black! Never had the shine off my own car hood blind me...
It's a real problem on the 70/71 cars. The curvature of the front sheet metal makes multiple spots that can burn your eyes, especially with a GT hood. Most of my Torinos had shakers that eliminated some of the glare but the rest eventually got the flat black treatment because the problem was making them miserable to drive in daylight. I copied the factory pattern like on Sean's ranchero. I came real close to doing the tops of the fenders but decided that would look hokey on an otherwise nice looking car. The factory paint used was a semi-gloss black by Ditzler back when the cars were new.
It’s the year end and after seven months of ownership a brief summary is needed..Purchase in May 2019.... Got the carburetor rebuilt, rear end leak repair, power steering pump and hoses replaced, had the transmission rebuilt and changed the wheels and tires..And all new dual exhaust from manifolds back... Sounds and runs great now...
