Looks like I've got a block that was cast in 1980? Definitely not original as it should've came with a 351w according to the title. Cast number EA03 D3C. Intake cast numbers-3AE-9425-HB. Heads- D80E 80(50?) AB. Serial Number on block EX620731. Also has the number 2080 stamped in the front of block behind timing cover. 20 over 80 in a little square. Just trying to get as much info as I can.
I guessing you have a normal 302 engine. To my surprise, those '351' heads were also installed on some 302 motors. If you have removed the distributor, the 302 came with a 5/16 hex drive shaft; think that ID's it as a 302.
Nope, the 302's all had 1/4" hex drive, as did most FE's - 351W,C,M, and 429-460 all had 5/16. The intake part number gave it away - 302 intake won't fit on a 351. And Ford in their infinite wisdom, used the same part number for some 302 and 351 heads, but the head bolt holes were 7/16 on the 302, while they were 1/2" on the 351W.
Yea, it's undoubtedly a 302. I've measured the bore and stroke. My main concern right now is that I'm going to replace the harmonic balancer with the wrong one, since it changed in 81. What I took off is the 50oz but I have no idea if it's actually correct. That's why I'm hoping to find out what it actually came in.
Look at the block - if it has the dipstick hole in the block down by the oil pan rail, it's 50 oz. , unless some genius replaced the crank, damper, and flexplate. Fairly unlikely. If the engine is out, look at the rear seal - a one piece seal is also the tell tale of a 50 oz. engine.
Engine is still in, just with the top end off in my backyard. I agree though, I don't think someone would change damper, flexplate and crank but I certainly wouldn't put it past someone to just install the wrong damper. But I didn't know that about the dip stick location. 50 oz should be correct then.
