Coming back inside after cleaning up some trees what broke, uprooted and shed limbs from the yard, I found my friend Thu had a very disappointing discovery...

Hey guys, just got power and phone lines back. No damage from storm other than a few trees down and LOTS of branches, trees looked like someone raked the leaves at tree top level ;). Generators made it bearable but can't find gas anywhere even IF the stations have power, although I can still get diesel without much hassle, to the chagrin of others. Hope everyone effected by this storm came out as well or faired better than us. Thank you once again for all your thoughts, prayers and well wishes......they ALL worked in my favor.

    Glad you are doing OK.
After the earthquake in, 85 IIRC, I brought a generator to a gas station and hooked it up. That was after the long trek back from Sanfagdisco due to the bridge failure. The owner was so happy to get gas for himself that he gave me a tank full for free.

Are you referring to the Loma Prieta quake? If so, that was in Fall '89. Watching that Merc Zephyr disappear then reappear on the Oakland Bay Bridge caused my jewels to shrink up inside me and refuse to come out.

That was the one. I was just off Battery, where you would have to sprint 1/4 mile if a building fell toward you. I was right across the street from the Rincon Plaza and got out as the glass was raining down. Bechtel was 2 buildings down, so I headed there as I figured they would have power. Broke 2 elevators to get people out, then bypassed the phone system to get a line open to make a call, then headed to the roof to try to get the generators running.
Dead batteries. My truck battery was staying in my truck. Luckily I had tools, a flashlight and a firearm, along with enough gas to get around the bridge being down.
I kicked myself hard for more than a few things. How many times had I headed over there without the gas to get back, or left my firearm behind so what I had could be taken from me as happened to others?
    I was lucky.

Ugh. I was in El Sobrante, night manager in a store on San Pablo Dam Road. I had to get my crew out of the building and we had furniture falling everywhere. I thought we were all out, when I heard a little old lady stuck behind a dresser in the back. I went and got her, but omg I recall wishing she could walk a little faster on the way outta there.
