Hi my name is Mike. I have a '77 ranchero GT And I need help with a fuel gauge discrepancy So originally at a full tank my fuel gauge would read 3/4 full. I decided that a new sending unit and float should fix that. Well my new one after install at full tank read about 1/2. So I assumed the new one was bad so I got a replacement. Well now the 2nd new one at full reads about a 1/4 Not quite sure what's going on. Was hoping someone else either has had this issue that they solved or had an idea what it could be
New tank floats have to be calibrated by bending the rod up or down so the gauge reads correctly. Did you do that before installing it in the tank?
Drain the tank... Pull float Don't mash the rubber gasket till u have it adjusted to where it reads empty Try it wires hooked up and just metal locking ring.. Don't need to go crazy bending the rod Hold rod bend by hand.. Hold rod like u would if you where going to snap a pencil ✏️ I usually pour 3 gallons in the tank..then adjust the float so it reads Just on (E) That way you have 3 gallons on E for Reserve.,.and I are set Being as u don't need to drop thank... Good luck with that
