Bikes have better power to weight ratios and better suspensions today, so he should have little trouble doing it. If he does splat, hopefully he is considerate and does it on the last jump so people who bought tickets won't get cheated out of the show.
True. Surprising he didn't crash more than he did. I just looked up motocross bikes, to see how much power they have now (my old 1979 YZ250 was super powerful, I thought, and often more than I needed). The YZ450 has electric start and you can tune it with a phone app. Times, they have certainly changed. Of course, the new one is near $10K while I paid $75 for mine, before rebuilding the engine. Evel could have jumped the Grand Canyon on this thing.
Well, I tried watching that mess, but gave up. I learned a few things. You can't surround 1 second of cool with 3 hours of broadcast and make it interesting, and that the motorcycles he used weren't all that modern and awesome as we were led to believe .
He did the jumps on an Indian 750...in terms of looks, it resembled the Harleys used by EK, back in the day. This was not a long travel suspension dirt bike like Robbie K used, but I'm sure much improved over what EK had....more importantly, the dynamic models and telemetry they must have used, was a vast improvement....finally, to top it off, Travis Pastrana is an EXTREMELY talented individual on a motorcycle. I think he was the first guy to stick a double back flip...among many many other achievements in that sport. He landed pretty hard on the last jump...can't say how close he came to losing it, but he got his neck whipped pretty good.
In other words, if they didn't know it would be successful, they wouldn't have done it, so everyone that watched is just a sucker for the ratings hounds. I knewed there was a reason I didn't watch it. So, Pastrana may have been the one who successfully made the jump, but Evel is the true daredevil.
I was an Evel Knievel fan as a kid and Travis Pastrana fan as an adult...I only caught the last jump....had yardwork to do...but at least I saw that one live....I enjoyed when TP was on, but didn't care much for the commentators...
Well, I was going to watch it tonight, but the cat's out of the bag. Thanks, you bunch of spoilers. Also, that fountain isn't as big as I thought. Also, I think someone here has a crush on TP (which I assume is Travis Pastrami).
As a fellow dirt bike rider, I admire his talent and attitude. Save yourself 2 hours of your life and watch the jumps and the post jump interview on youtube....although the cruise down the strip between #2 and #3 was very cool.
Vegas is among the best for people watching....I can't handle the smoke in the casinos and I don't gamble.....now Lake Mead...that's another story...have had some good times there...and some tense boat rides too!
My total Vegas gambling losses are in the $30-40 range, all slots, during 5-6 visits. I think I've won $25 or so during that time. I like my money too much and am smart enough to keep it.
