It reads like an Onion comedy story. It is true, people are idiots.
Berkeley's municipal code will no longer feature words like "manhole" and "manpower," and instead say, "maintenance hole" and "human effort" or "workforce." The measure passed unanimously Tuesday and replaces more than two dozen terms.
Gender-specific references to job titles, like "policeman" and "craftsmen," will also be changed in the code, to "police officer" and "craftspeople" or "artisans."
"Sorority" and "fraternity" would change to "collegiate Greek system residence." And the use of gendered pronouns, like "he" and "she," would be replaced with specific titles, like "the attorney" or "the candidate."
"The attorney" and "the candidate" are genderless, soulless entities anyway, so why the heck not?!?
It's not called "Berserkley" for nothin'.
I think that the United States should secede from California.
Well isn't that special...
...and here I've always thought the "man" portion of a word like manhole was just the shortened version of human. Society has become so sensitive these days....ughhh
Odd they chose that word. In Beserkely most "manholes" are only accessed by males anyway.
My brother Tim was born there, "Berserkeley" is his email username.
A buddy of mine in HS father was a sheriff for Alameda County and in the late 60s was often on campus with all the protests and craziness going on..."Berserkeley" was aptly named so...
If you do, take me with you! My community is actually a fairly conservative bubble in a very liberal state.
On the gender-neutral terms, it's not going to change anything. People are people, and attitudes are attitudes. It's kind of like the term "African American." Everyone still use the terms "black" and "white" when referring to race.
Separate names with a comma.
