Very nice survivor! Question: that’s a standard instrument panel in a GT. Was the GT panel an option that year, or possibly it was substituted at the factory with the stripe delete option?
Base dash was standard in a GT. Sport dash was an option. Also came as part of the GTS package which also included a larger front sway bar and a rear sway bar.
Wrong we have a 72 Gran Torino Sport aka GTS and has standard dash cluster. The sway bar package with rear sway bar and bigger front was part of the Competition Suspension package which also included different rear upper control arms an was an Option,not part of the Sport package or GT. The dash cluster with Tachometer and individual gauges was called Instrumentation Group and was also an option so depending what car was ordered with is what it had but neither of those options were part of the Sport/GT package. For 1972 Sport for Gran Torino and GT for Ranchero included hood with scoop,Color keyed dual Racing mirrors,Plastic door panels with vinyl inserts and Sport upholstery on seats and that was it. All other components were options. Visibility group included lights on bottom of either side of dash and I think the dome light with map lights. I hope these clears up the confusions and these are hard facts which you can learn from reading Marti Reports
This has been for sale for months with asking price of $34.5k. Was bid up to right around $27k at least twice on eBay and was a 'No Sale' with 'Reserve Not Met'. I seriously doubt anyone would pay anywhere near $50k for this one. Maybe if it was a very nice big block.
