People tend to congregate with those like themselves; the same likes, dislikes, goals, morals, etc. So, the older folk you are referring to are probably people in your inner circle (of trust). Of course they do what's right. You do. There were some old guys in my neighborhood when I was growing up (now dead, I bet), who were the biggest jerks walking. I bet they wouldn't be your friend. :) There are assholes in every age class. In every race and religion. On every forum.

I think it was an attempt at self depreciating humor.

I was going to call him and tell him to sell it for nothing less than $6000.

I still would have bought it, could have probably parted it out for $15K or more.

I think you mean "do unto others".
Do on to others could mean a very different thing.

Time will tell, I'm out nothing but advice. I'm no Angel but at the end of my day, I think that I did right. Must be that age thing that I keep hearing about. It sure doesn't fall under " older and wiser ".

This brought back a memory from many years ago; it was classic karma served to an a-hole who took advantage of an older woman who didn’t know the value of the car in her garage - either her son’s or husband’s - I don’t recall, it’s been over 30 years now.
But if I remember correctly he paid about $1k for a 69 or 70 Mustang that was in the middle of a restoration. All the parts were there but she couldn’t find the title so he talked her down from $2 or $3k claiming the car wouldn’t be “authentic “ without the original title - or some bs like that.

Anyway, he gets it and proceeds to rebuild the engine and put it back together. When he tried to register it the vin came back as stolen and the car was confiscated.
Best we could figure is it wasn’t being restored, it was being stripped.
    Ouch.

Doesn’t perfectly correlate with the theme of this post, but it brought back a memory I hadn’t thought about for years.

....and let’s hope your not buying stolen parts!

That story speaks of another good saying--"What goes around, comes around."
