By cardboard he means the vinyl covered panel that covers the inside below the headliner. If you bought a headliner kit, it will come with these panels.
Ok it just came with couple extra pieces of vinyl. So I guess I just need to get some chip board and make the shape and cover them with vinyl. I went to pull apart today and they had a 71 Torino Wagon. Come to find out it been there since the 6/9/11 and some one had took the tail lights and the front sheet metal but I don't need those any way. I grabbed a few interior pieces that I was missing so it was a good run.
I just installed the headliner it went well but I have a place or two that not a true wrinkle but a wave will that come out over time or do I need to work it out now.
If you have an iron that produces steam, you can steam it out. Take a damp towel, and hold the steam iron against the towel up against the headliner, dont push against it, let the steam do all the work. Just a few seconds should do it. At the shop we have industrial steamers that would melt the vinyl if you dont watch out.
Alright just got done putting it back together enough to go to the All Ford show at Summit Racing tomorrow. I think you have to be a linebacker to get the bed trim on I ended up taking some brackets off and that was a little better. Surprisingly I came close to having all the parts besides a few screws. Well I am worn out time for bed.
So I went to the All Ford Show at Summit Racing in McDonough Ga yesterday. This was the first show and for the most part the first real drive in the car. I found a a few problems like no turn signals and brake lights. I know I should have checked before I left but I was busy putting trim on. I have noticed a little trans leak that I have to check that out also when you get on the gas it wants to run until it hits a spot and bogs down. Nothing to big just some hiccups.
Interesting treatment [black] of the trim around the bed and taillights. Don't think I've seen that before. Plug and unplug that semi-circular connector down the steering column a few times, might make your missing lights work. Since brake light filaments are also turn signal filaments at the rear, they also have to pass through the turn signal switch.
Bush is that a good thing? The chrome was shot so at first I was going to color match the car but I thought the black was a better idea and as soon as I black out the hood it will fit better. Also I am going paint the indention around the tail lights black.
The show last week was cool like I said the car had a hiccup or two. I got the turn signals to work brake lights are still out I think I need to replace the switch. I did have a oil problem the day I drove it to the show but that was due to the oil pressure gauge thing from the week before. The biggest problem I am facing is when you get on it it bogs down. My buddy changed out the jets in the carb and got rid of my points today with Crane Cams XR-i Points conversion ignition and a new coil to see if that would help. It runs better but it still not fixed. The car been sitting for years and the fuel filter is real brown and not filling up quick enough. So I am thinking the system is clog with rust and old gas. Next weekend I am going drop the gas tank and clean out the fuel lines. We replaced the fuel pump a few months back but it was just a stock one so after everything is clean if needs be I will get a higher capacity pump. Also what the best fuel stabilizer out there for our cars.? I use Sea Foam on my lawn equipment .
Has anyone tried these headers Flowtech 32118FLT - Flowtech Headers http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BIG-32118FLT/RequiredParts/?query=Year|1971|Make|FORD|Model|RANCHERO&prefilter=1
You did a nice job on it. I like the blue it brings it to life you should turn heads with that one. Hat's off to you.
Really nice ride. Great job on the fuel filler and door. I Want to put filler in the removable panel inside bed and cover outside panel so it is smooth. Anyone know reason not to put filler on inside bed?
Yes dropping the tank and coating it and cleaning all the fuel lines did wonders. Still working on it things but been doing stuff slow. New set of headers, valve covers, and weather stripping should be ordered this week. I had appendicitis earlier this week it went ok but will not be able to go back to work for a few weeks so I should have some time to play soon.
When I say it went ok I meant the Doctor was in me doing the easy surgery and when he went to remove the appendix it fell apart. So then he had to cut me open and clean me out. It happen last Monday and I got out of the hospital last Friday been home since. I have IV antibiotics that goes through a pic line that I have to do 3 times a day for the next 9 days. I did order a dash cap today. Still waiting on ordering the others later this week.
